Greetings, ontd_fb. I've lurked this comm on and off since the world cup two years ago, today I finally have something to contribute.

If there's anything people would like to use/repost, take whatever, no crediting necessary; but it'd be nice if you leave a comment and let me know where it's going. Cheers.

Edit: I know if I was crazy enough I could have tried stalking/paparazzi stuff, but I did the whole ambushing Liverpool players outside Melwood thing last month and didn't like it much (was great to have the chance to say encouraging things to the players but camera in their face without permission didn't feel nice at all).

To pretty much everyone's shock, England managed to beat Spain at Wembley today :oooo It was an decent game I thought, Spain had all the possession and the tika-taka, but England had a lot going for them too, Phil Jones did very well on his debut, the defence was generally well marshalled and Scott Parker gave one of those quintessential no guts no glory performances that he gave week in week out for West Ham. England were captained by Frank Lampard, it was only the second time he's led England out, but wasn't he a good capitan, scoring the win and generally giving an assured performance. I'll stop talking now and post some pretty pictures *___*

Yeah, so that's it really! Let's not make this more than what it is, which is a morale-boosting, hard-earned win over an excellent Spain side. We got lucky, but you make your own luck, so. What it most certainly is NOT is an sign that "INgurland are gna win da Eurossss okay and den Rooney willb preiddent 4-lyf!!!!" Moderation. Is. Key.

But for now, I'mma cherish this :))))))

"Sergio Busquets podrá jugar la final de la Champions.  La UEFA ha notificado al FC Barcelona que ha desestimado la reclamación del Real Madrid."

English: Sergio Busquets will play the Champions League final. UEFA has notified FC Barcelona that they have dismissed the claims of Real Madrid.

Edit: Okay, about whether the interview is legit. First I'd like to say if it were just random quote I came across online, I wouldn't have bothered to post it, let alone to translate it, for its dubious credibility. Now, I can't say every line in this interview is exactly how it's originally said (the "original" is a translation itself, after all) or that the reporter didn't change or twist something when he was happily transcribing. But the magazine is a pretty serious one. It's a member of the European Sports Magazines and partners to Frace Football, Don Balon etc...I know I know, it doesn't mean they don't write bullshit at all, and I have to say it can be biased or ill-informed in its commentaries as every other sports paper/mag. But as far as interviews go they're quite decent. They have reporters working in Europe to conduct the interviews personally. That's why I believe they at least didn't make the whole interview up. I'll just add the pics that come with it (sorry for the crappy quality, that's what happens when you don't have a scanner) - I'm willing to believe they're taken at this particular interview, but if someone know otherwise please tell me. Then I can delete this whole post because god knows I'd be GLAD if Busquets and Pedro didn't say this whole bunch of rubbish after all.

And for those who doubt if European players do interviews with Asian media - yes they do. I know a Japanese mag ran a column to which a few RM players took turn to contribute - probably written by their PR people, but still a Japanese fan said they were fun to read, as there were usually some anecdotes that weren't seen elsewhere, and it read like the players were talking a little more freely than they do to the local press.

Edit II: In response to some of the comments - just because it's a "random Chinese magazine" doesn't automatically makes it a big fat unscrupulous liar. And I repeat: yes European players do give interviews to the Asian press. But no, there's no proof in the form of audio or video or whatever of whether the interview is legit or not. The most I can tell you about this magazine is as I've said above. It's up to you to decide.

***

I'm so getting over the clasicos already, but then there's this interview in a newly released issue of a football magazine, which is...well, let's just say it's a terrific read when you're really bored, coz it makes you laugh, yell, swear, face palm, tear at your hair, have an urge to throw something out of the window and stab at your pillow all at the same time.

In this exclusive interview with Football Weekly, two lovely souls that are senor Sergio Busquets and senor Pedro Rodriguez have something very insightful to say on the criticisms against them after the clasicos, Real Madrid and their NT teammates...

*Original in Chinese, translated by moi
**This is not the full translation of the interview, as 1) I'm to lazy to do so and 2) there're things that are irrelevant to the clasico topic. But to each question the answers are translated fully. So nothing is taken out of context.

I mean, seriously? )

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between the clubs on 27 April.

I have been called nigger exactly 4 times in my life.

–The first was when I was very young, no more than 10, and strayed into a swimming pool locker room area, when my neighborhood was still wrestling with integration. It was accompanied by physical violence upon my person. I was stunned and confused in my youthful innocence.

–The second was as a middle teen, when a very young Hispanic kid in the neighborhood that was still wrestling with its change, decided he would mimic his parents. It was just silly, and moderately vexing.

–The third was tangential, more than 25 years ago when my first wife (who is white) was labeled a “Nigger lover” by a passing carload of enlightened souls. I called upon all the cycling speed that I had in an attempt to catch up with the car, having no idea what I would do when I got there.

–The fourth was about three years ago, whereupon I just looked at the guy and said something to the effect of “Is that all you have, a 300-year-old word? How about a real insult?”

Reactions change over time.

...the club is being besmirched right now, in a way that spits in the face of every humanitarian effort and gesture that it has made )

The racism. I fucking can't. In life, in sports, ever. FUCK PEOPLE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU. Btw mono means monkey.

ETA: E-mail the UEFA at info@uefa.com and FCB at oab@fcbarcelona.cat to let them know that this is not acceptable behavior and that they need to take immediate action against this, because to simply state in words you are against racism in campaigns or through t-shirt slogans will never be enough.

ETA2: Here is another video of Busquets calling Marcelo a monkey, since the first one was pulled for copyright infringement by La Liga. So they know what happened, they better well do something about it >.>

ETA 3: The second vid was pulled for copyright as well, but you can still see it over here at Marca (can't embed): www.marca.com/2011/04/29/futbol/liga_campeones/1304082306.html# ty for the link [livejournal.com profile] vaguely_dirty  :*

So, the NT is back together again in Madrid today but as well as getting together to compare who has the worst DSquared clothing they also attended a few functions this morning.

Fernando went to his hometown of Fuenlabrada to be awarded the Medalla de la Ciudad de Fuenlabrada for winning the WC and also went to visit a sports centre that is being built and will be named after him.

Later on this morning the players all headed to La Rozas to meet up with the other late arrivals and to allow Sernando to reunite settle in before their training session that started about 15 minutes ago

Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Every World Cup, or at least recently, the bigwigs vow to crack down on simulation. And every World Cup, we still get too much controversy. Diving, exaggerating an injury in an attempt to draw a yellow card or get a player sent off, is commonplace.

Who could forget Jurgen Klinsmann's con job in the 1990 final or Rivaldo's theatrics in 2002?

Who will the refs keep a special eye on in South Africa? These 10 are a good start.

Emmanuel Eboue, Ivory Coast: Eboue gives the term "flying winger" new meaning. When offered the choice, Eboue, also a fullback, prefers hitting the ground to staying on his feet and dribbling past opponents using his ample pace. His dive for Arsenal against Barcelona in the 2006 Champions League final even led to criticism from Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who's notoriously protective of his players in public. "It is clear there was no foul," Wenger raged. "I condemn and regret the attitude of Eboue."

Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal: To some extent, Ronaldo deserves pity. Because he's so quick and so good, opponents are always trying to throw the Galactico off his game by hacking him down. Moving away from the physical Premier League helped the dashing former world player of the year in that respect.

However, his behavior against England at the 2006 World Cup was inexcusable. Up against Wayne Rooney, then a teammate at Manchester United, Ronaldo took pleasure in watching the feisty striker earn a red card, delivering one of the most famous winks in World Cup history.
