"The Final Whistle Has Blown" for Sylvie & Rafa van der Vaart

sylvie
Beautiful Sylvie, at an event.

FROM BILD (Sorry about that - but they appear to have spoken to this paper)
By BABAK MILANI
Slightly condensed translation by me, [livejournal.com profile] jenny_jenkins

They were THE glamour couple of the Bundesliga. The successful football star Rafael (29) and his beautiful wife, Sylvie van der Vaart (34). Their relationship lasted 10 years. The final whistle has blown.

The marriage is finished. "I am very sad that it didn't work out for us. We are the guilty ones. Sylvie and I have to answer for the fact that our marriage isn't functioning," declares Hamburg's playmaker.

[Sylvie van der Vaart]: "We have, over time, drifted apart. It was a gradual process...even though it may sound we still love and respect each other..."

niko says hey girl hey )

anyway, on thursday the team had a game for europa league qualification and while it wasn't as vomit-inducing as the young boys CL game (what a difference a year makes~) there were still thrills, spills and more thrills. a kind soul on tumblr animated some of the major parts but you can take a trip down memory lane right here too.

Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Redknapp at the heart of Spurs' big adventure

Tottenham Hotspur FC's reputation has grown steadily in the UEFA Champions League this season. Ever since Gareth Bale almost sparked one of the most dramatic comebacks witnessed at San Siro against holders FC Internazionale Milano in October, the north London team have become regarded as one of the competition's most entertaining sides.

Manager Harry Redknapp has been the inspiration behind Tottenham's charge to the quarter-finals, which the Group A winners sealed with a 1-0 aggregate victory over seven-time European champions AC Milan on Wednesday. The Spurs boss is now five games away from joining British predecessors such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby (Manchester United FC), Tony Barton (Aston Villa FC), Joe Fagan and Bob Paisley (Liverpool FC) and Brian Clough (Nottingham Forest FC) in lifting European club football's elite trophy.

tbh if they have to play Barcelona I will cry tears of sadness. WHO WILL I ROOT FOR???

FOR YOUR TIME, SOME BALE BULGE.

On the 28th, they hosted Newcastle

have I ever mentioned how Aaron Lennon goals are some of my absolute favorites? well now you know.

q: did spurs finish with 11 men? a: of course not )

On the 1st, they hosted Fulham, and it was somewhat less eventful
Somewhat less eventful is a very generous description )

The next match is at Goodison Park on Wednesday! The team looked like they were playing tired v Fulham so I wonder which (if any) changes Harry will make.

However, trying to figure out what he's thinking is nigh impossible for me. For instance:

Harry Redknapp says David Beckham could play against Charlton

• Spurs and LA Galaxy talk as England midfielder confirms his interest in moving on loan
• Tottenham manager insists 35-year-old can fit into his team and play at top level

She's married to the brightest star in the Premier League, lives in a £4million mansion and is one of the hottest properties in TV and modelling.

But new Queen of the WAG Sylvie van der Vaart will never take her amazing life for granted – because she’s in remission after battling breast cancer.

“He took me in his arms. I asked him, ‘Will you find me attractive when I lose my hair?.’ He said. ‘For me you are always the most beautiful woman in the world.’” )

love her, love him

BTW, and I cannot stress this enough, ladies PLEASE make sure you do monthly breast self-exams and go to your doctor for screenings and check-ups, and if you think something is wrong, don't wait it out. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and early detection is vital for a successful treatment. See the susan g. komen site for more information. /PSA

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart could be set for a month on the sidelines after he tore his hamstring muscle against Liverpool.

Van der Vaart has been one of the Premier League's most productive players so far this season, but has struggled with injury niggles since his move to Spurs from Real Madrid in the summer.

The Dutchman lasted just 12 minutes of Sunday's 2-1 win at White Hart Lane and manager Harry Redknapp believes his exploits at the 2010 World Cup may have had an impact on the midfielder's fitness.

"Rafa felt it tear, so that doesn't look too good," said the Spurs boss. "It's so disappointing for Rafa. He keeps picking up little injuries.

''It's probably because he's missed a pre-season or was away at the World Cup and not played many games. When your fitness is a bit low it's hard to get up to speed. He keeps getting little nicks."

Redknapp also lost defender Younes Kaboul to a hip injury and is waiting for confirmation on how long he will be out. "Younes felt he might have torn a muscle in his hip. He felt that go,'' he said.

what is there to say really? at halftime arsenal had their deserved lead and it was lucky for spurs that it wasn't more than 2-0, and the second half...well. if you cared about it you heard about it by now! come and relive the misery and glory of the match, because there was plenty of each to go around for everyone (spurs had a little more of the latter at the end though).

i save my explicit "lol @ arsenal" for the end so if you're a sensitive soul like me then maybe you might want to scroll by it quickly.

did you think either side would keep a clean sheet? of course you didn't )

I'm saying this as a fan-- I am quickly falling in ~~love with VDV. So with that red card, which game is he missing? Inter Milan away, nothing too bad.

What else is going on with the club? Funny you should ask.

Fifa's fresh start; the summer's best investment; model news; plus chairman of the week

By David Hills
The Observer, Sunday 5 September 2010

Fifa's Chung Mong-joon receives his award from Nicolás Leóz.

New dawn

Man of the week: Chung Mong-joon – Sepp's new main rival in 2011's Fifa elections. Chung's Fifa credentials: a £1bn personal fortune; son of Chung Ju-yung, convicted in 1992 for misappropriating £50m; brother of Chung Mong-koo, convicted in 2007 for embezzling £45m; and regular anti-corruption talisman – last year calling his then-rival Mohamed bin Hammam a "mentally ill" man who "represents a serious lack of transparency in football".

(Also last week, boosting Chung's chances: an award for "services to football" from South American confederation president Nicolás Leóz. Leóz's own transparency highlight: being named in court as taking £85k in bribes from Fifa's marketing agency in 2000.)

Also last week

New from Sepp: a pledge to release emergency aid from Fifa's Special Projects Fund to help Pakistan's football infrastructure recover.
Sepp: "Contributing to alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity after disasters within the football family is a responsibility Fifa takes very seriously."

Last time Fifa used their £559m fund to aid disaster relief: February – sending £1.9m to Haiti.
Four months later: Sepp gives £45.5m in one-off bonuses to Fifa member associations, ahead of next year's elections. "Just call it a gift!"

• Also new last week – Sepp launching this year's Fifa Fair Play Days. "These games must make an impact. They must encapsulate the sporting, moral and ethical principles for which Fifa has always stood."

Schwarzer fuming over failed move

Mark Schwarzer is still seething over Fulham's decision to block his dream move to English Premier League heavyweight Arsenal.

The long-time Socceroos goalkeeper put a testing week behind him by pulling off two brilliant saves in Australia's 0-0 draw in Friday's friendly against Switzerland in St Gallen.

He found it hard not to bite at questions regarding Craven Cottage boss Mark Hughes' refusal to let him switch to the Gunners.

Hard graft the key to Walcott improvement

Extra work on the training pitch and extra hours in the gym are the twin pillars of Theo Walcott's improvement this season.

The England international has made a flying start to the campaign with four goals in his first two starts - including a hat-trick against Blackpool at Emirates Stadium last week. The 21-year-old has created countless other openings with his direct running and more considered crossing.

(Robert) Van Persie plan backfires to Spurs advantage

Arjen Robben made it no secret he reckons Robin Van Persie will be quite upset to face his friend and compatriot Rafael Van Der Vaart in the North London derby. Robben added that signing Van Der Vaart makes Tottenham as strong as Arsenal, calling him the best.

“With Rafa on board, Spurs really do have one of the very best midfield players in the Premier League, maybe even the best.

LOL ok... )

Also according to Goonertalk Samir Nasri has told french TV that he might be back for the Bolton game next Saturday!

Nothing amazingly revealing, but i thought i'd post anyway (sorry to pour salt on the wounds though...)
I guess he didn't have a good relationship with the club. :(
