To pretty much everyone's shock, England managed to beat Spain at Wembley today :oooo It was an decent game I thought, Spain had all the possession and the tika-taka, but England had a lot going for them too, Phil Jones did very well on his debut, the defence was generally well marshalled and Scott Parker gave one of those quintessential no guts no glory performances that he gave week in week out for West Ham. England were captained by Frank Lampard, it was only the second time he's led England out, but wasn't he a good capitan, scoring the win and generally giving an assured performance. I'll stop talking now and post some pretty pictures *___*

Photobucket
Two very dishy captains :33333

Photobucket
John Terry was benched

Photobucket
He was BOSS today, making some great interceptions and then running after the ones he missed, even if they seemed like lost causes. His defensive nous really stifled Spain's potency today, and he managed to make some great attacking runs too. Take a bow, son. Take a bow.

Photobucket
The minute's silence was impeccably observed

Photobucket
Spain's hobbits XD

Photobucket
Flaws? I see none :333

Photobucket

OK, so the first half, Spain bossed it, the possession stats were insane. But there wasn't that much end product so the first half ended goalless.

At the startof the first half though, Lampard did well to head a Darren Bent shot into the open goal.

Photobucket

It was flawless, plus his last three goals now have all been with his head! Not bad for someone who only ~scores shitty goals with his fat arse~~~
Photobucket

Photobucket
JT's reaction to Lamps' goal was as close a visual definition to GLEE I've ever seen!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Ashley Cole and Sergio Busquets fighting for da ball. Busquets dived a lot today. I was really shocked, I thought he never dived. #trollface

Photobucket
Obligatory mention of the onrunning Xabi vs Lampard fued ;)

Photobucket
Despite having a horrendous kit, Joe Hart just effortlessly emulates swag. He and Joleon Lescott combined well on several occasions in the first half to snuff out Man City teammate David Silva's threat.

Photobucket
lol Cesc's hair. No words tbqh

Photobucket
For those who are inclined to never walk alone down memory lane ;)

Photobucket
We'll see if Torres will be smiling so much at the end of December when 'Arry sends Parker out to man-mark this bad boy :-p.

btw Torres got booed a lot at Wembley today. SMH.

Photobucket
Not gonna go into the politics, but aesthetically, I do think the armbands looked very beautiful. Unfortunately they kept falling off so some players played on without them.

Photobucket
Random pic of Joe Hart and Ashley Cole heh heh

Photobucket
Obligatory Chelseabunging

I love how this says "Frank Lampard, Captain". #mylyfe I know I say this a lot and reptetition (especially that of the fangirly, LAMPSYBUNG 4-LYFE genre) is not annoying, not one bit ;), but I really have to say it, this man is a BEAST. Only a month ago, established football writers were not-so-politely voicing their opinions that Lampard should hang up his boots for England, and possibly even Chelsea. The man's response? The train harder, work harder and be even more boss than he already is. That is a mighty healthy mentality, and just goes to show what a profession Lampsybung is.

The Fernando Torres/Juan Mata bromance gets more real and real every day. To paraphrase Britney, "Gimme MORRES" :p
Photobucket

Yeah, so that's it really! Let's not make this more than what it is, which is a morale-boosting, hard-earned win over an excellent Spain side. We got lucky, but you make your own luck, so. What it most certainly is NOT is an sign that "INgurland are gna win da Eurossss okay and den Rooney willb preiddent 4-lyf!!!!" Moderation. Is. Key.

But for now, I'mma cherish this :))))))

Good play from England. Parker did very well.

Disappointed in Spain though. Seems the same problem of lacking sharpness in the final third. But they looked better after Del Bosque finally gave up playing two DMs. Anyway it's just a friendly but I can totally see the English media getting over themselves with words like 'this means we are the world champions now' lol

Great match! England looked so much more up for it than they have recently. Their energy was impressive right from the start. Parker just WAS NOT having any of that tiki taka nonesense if he could help it.
It seemed to me Spain really needed a bit of Pedro - someone who would bomb down the wings and feed into the box. They scooped a few up and over England's line but besides that it was just a whole lot of trying to weasle through the middle. I love what Cesc added but I think it was too little too late. Of course I'm still trying to figure out why it's like this with friendlies.

JT was so qt on the bench tonight. I don't know why Cesc, Torres, and Serrrrgio are all rocking the same goofy hair. not nearly enough Xavi btw.

I am bewildered (as I wasn't expecting this result) but very very pleased.

This seems to be the trick to getting England to win. Depress expectations so much that all they hope for is to lose with a not too embarrassing goal difference.

ngl, england was working for their paychecks haha 2nd half was theirs

but if the spanish law is for spain to lose friendlies but keep winning in competition, i'm cool with that

i was hoping more would come of the villa-torres link up though :( boooo

Really pleased with the result tonight, wasn't expecting that at all to be honest! I enjoyed the game, the lads worked their socks off. I'm proud of them. I thought Parker, Lescott, and Milner were especially good.

I'm not gonna get ahead of myself like I'm sure the press will. This was a good result and will be a great boost for the team morale, but that's that really.

As for Lampsy... He's fantastic. I'm so pleased for him, being captain and scoring the winning goal. Seriously love him so fucking much. Fuck everyone who had written him off. Plus, JT's reaction to Frank's goal was lovely, he looked ecstatic.

... But Cesc's hair though. What even.

Cesc's hair... I can't.

And my goodness, Busi and the diving. Atrocious.

But yes, JT's reaction after Lampsy's goal <3 The cutest! He was so happy :) Loved it.

And again, the hair.. Cesc, Sergio, and Nando.
Stop -_-

I loved Ramos and Glen Johnson today. Sad for my favorite Spanish players, and more importantly Captain Pepe, but happy for Glen and Downing :)

I do have to say that I thought Spain controlled the game, but England did a great job playing defensively and it eventually worked out for them. Plus Spain's finishing was pretty terrible.

Still in shock that I got to go to Wembly, see England play AND NOT LOSE!

The atmosphere was amazing and the whole England crowd was on the edge of their seats for the last ten minutes.

Literally! I have no nails left cause I was sat on the edge of my seat chewing away nervously. Was so scared we were gonna concede. Especially in those last 3 minutes. They took the clock away and I was like 'nuuuuuuu!!' lol.

First trip to Wembley and a win against the World Champs. I could not ask for more! :D

Absolutely loved Lampard's comments after the game - so true. It was a fascinating game and England parked the bus beautifully. The way in which Spain held onto the ball and their patience was really admirable.

Fantastic match. Someone on twitter said that this was the first time in a long time that England played like a team and that made all the difference. I thought that was really true. It was a true team performance. We aren't gonna win the Euros lol (although we could Greece out way to it) but it's a good morale boost.

Parker was MOTM, but thought Lescott deserved a shout out as well.

I was sat in the stands and I booed Torres and I enjoyed it! :P

It was a good match. Really great atmosphere! We had loads of Spain fans sat round us but it was all good humoured banter going on (well until we scored and we started taking the piss, yeah...).

Scott Parker was immense! He got a huge cheer and standing ovation when he was subbed off and then once again when they named him MOTM. Take a bow, lad!

And yeah, basically, I was incredibly impressed with our defence. We dun gud! :D

Just finished watching the match since I had to work today. Now that's more like it England! Spain are my faves, but I've always had a soft spot for England and it was great to see them have a proper go at it today. England bbs are fearless and football can only benefit from having a competitive England squad.

Yay for Iker's 126th cap and CAPTAIN XABI!!!!!!

Also, can we please have tunnelcam for every single game? I mean GENIUS IDEA!!!!!

It's also really cool that his England career basically started when he was 29. Just goes to show any other guys who maybe got a cap or two in their early twenties and then fell off the radar, or never got capped at all, it's not over for them just because they're pushing thirty.
