John Terry retires from England duty

Former England captain John Terry has announced his retirement from international football.

The only thing known now, will add more info when available.
*What a way to have my first post on ONTD_FB.
**Also, wtf is happening in Madrid?

Thoughts? Personal feelings toward him aside, can't shrug his contributions to England, IMO.

Terry quit England less than 24 hours before the Football Association hearing into the Anton Ferdinand saga was expected to begin.

Chelsea captain Terry announced his immediate retirement from international football, accusing the FA of making his position "untenable".

The 31-year-old said in a statement: "I am today announcing my retirement from international football.

"I would like to thank the England managers who have selected me for my 78 caps.

"I have had great pleasure in sharing that honour with all the players that I've played with.

"I would like to thank them, the fans and my family for their support and encouragement during my international career.

"Representing and captaining my country is what I dreamed of as a boy and it has been a truly great honour.

"I have always given my all and it breaks my heart to make this decision.

"I want to wish Roy [Hodgson] and the team every success for the future.

"I am making this statement today in advance of the hearing of the FA disciplinary charge because I feel the FA, in pursuing charges against me where I have already been cleared in a court of law, have made my position with the national team untenable.

"I now look forward to playing for Chelsea FC, and challenging for domestic and European honours, and I want to thank the fans and the club for their continued support."

The Kop cat is looking for a home
A cat that brought a Premier League match to a standstill and became an instant internet celebrity is looking for a new home. The fearless tabby that was cheered by more than 44,000 soccer fans at Liverpool's Anfield stadium has been rescued by an animal charity.

Originally dubbed "Kenny" he sauntered onto the pitch 11 minutes into Liverpool's clash with Tottenham Hotspur on 6th February. TV viewers watched in amazement as Spurs 'keeper Brad Fiedel tried in vain to catch the cat until a steward eventually scooped him up and ejected him from the ground. Following his spell in the limelight the mouser faded into obscurity, living as a stray in a derelict house in Lothair Road, a few yards from Anfield. But his fame spread worldwide on YouTube and a Twitter account set-up by a fan gained more than 50,000 followers - including X-Factor runner-up Marcus Collins.

He's also had a pretty brilliant song written about him, FYI.

And it was when his fans started looking for "Kenny" that Freshfield Animal Rescue received a call from an resident in Anfield, telling them where he could be found. He was taken to a temporary home at the animal charity's centre at Freshfield, near Formby, where they are calling the cat "Shanks" after the legendary Anfield manager.

Cattery assistant Katherine Gibbs, 25, said he is "an absolute gentleman" and despite a few scratches to his face and legs from fighting other cats he is in good heath. Katherine said: "He is not an aggressive cat and we think he is a bit of a ladies man so he fought off the advances of other male cats and has wounds from fights. He was a little bit timid and reserved when we brought him here but he has settled in brilliantly. We'll get him match fit soon and he has done quite a bit of training already. He is exhausted at the moment and sleeps a lot. But he will be in full health soon after a course of antibiotics, a dental and he is neuted. Shanks is quite a laidback cat but he doesn't like dogs, like most cats. He'll be a lap cat, even though he's strong-willed, because he loves his cuddles. He's an absolute gentleman and loves eating chicken - which is his favourite treat."

Anfield local David Highfield, 59, lives on the Lothair Road in Anfield where the cat was rescued. He said: He's already famous round here and I would love to see him go to a good home. This cat has been knocking around these streets for years. It would be really nice if he could get a home in the area and with his new-found fame I’m sure he will have no problem. Even if he got a home over the other side of the ground I bet he could cut across the pitch."

Barcelona chief Sandro Rosell says Europe's top clubs wants to expand the Champions League - and will push ahead with a breakaway league if they don't get their way.

In a strongly-worded appearance at the Aspire4Sport conference in Doha, Rosell said that the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the European Club Association and UEFA will expire in 2014 and that, as yet, there is no agreement to extend it.

Rosell, the ECA's vice-president, is at the forefront of efforts by leading clubs to have fewer international fixtures.

"If UEFA does not accept, in the worst case scenario, we will go away from UEFA," he said. "Nobody wants this situation."

Rosell revealed that many top clubs want to play Champions League games at weekends but that leagues would have to be dramatically slashed accordingly.

He continued: "It's something all of them would have to agree to. That includes the Premier League, who would have to reduce from 20 to 16 (teams).

"If you explain the idea properly, at the end of the day it's the best way of implementing the competitions in the near future.

"We want a bigger Champions League and hope one day we could play perhaps Barcelona versus Manchester United on Saturdays.

"That's what we are aiming for but to increase doesn't necessarily mean to do it with UEFA."

Rosell added: "We want to have the Champions League under the UEFA umbrella but we want UEFA to hear our demands.

"If UEFA and the ECA reach an agreement then that's good for both parties. If not, with or without the UEFA umbrella, the ECA is entitled to organise their own champions' competition by themselves of course.

"We are not trying to eliminate dates for national teams - but the number of days our players are used by the national associations is huge."

SMH!! So he wants to reduce domestic leagues just so they can make even more money. No thank  you.

Sir Alex Ferguson has received a very special 25th anniversary tribute from his grateful employers at Manchester United - with Old Trafford's biggest stand being renamed in his honour.

The North Stand is now known as the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, after a new sign was unveiled just before kick-off against Sunderland. It's the first time in the 101-year history of Old Trafford that a stand has been named after an individual. In addition, the renowned sculptor Philip Jackson has been commissioned to create a statue of the manager. This will be erected outside the stand's entrance, hopefully in August 2012.

In a club statement, United chief executive David Gill said: "To be at a club of our standing for so long is truly remarkable. In that time, Sir Alex has established himself as the most successful manager in British football history, winning countless trophies and creating numerous sides admired around the world for their flair and ability. Sir Alex's contribution to United has been immense and the magnificent stadium we have here at Old Trafford is a testament to his ability and success.

The Board felt it right to take this unique step, as well as to commission Philip Jackson to create a statue to go alongside his other great pieces here of Sir Matt and the United Trinity. These tributes are made with the grateful thanks of the owners, board, staff, players and fans of Manchester United, for the great pleasure Sir Alex has brought us all over a quarter of a century.
"

Sir Alex saw his name on the former North Stand for the first time after walking through a guard of honour formed by both teams. Talking on the stadium PA system, he remarked how proud he felt to "work for the greatest football club in the world" and to have managed "some of the greatest footballers we've ever seen in this country."

The Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook has resigned his position at the club in the wake of allegations he sent an email to Nedum Onuoha's mother, Dr Anthonia Onuoha, who has cancer, ridiculing her illness. He also claimed the culprit had been dealt with.

Now that the season’s in full swing, it means one thing – you can expect to see annoying little tl;dr Chelseaspams polluting your friends list :) HAI

So, after a disheartening scoreless draw away to Stoke last weekend, Chelsea played another West Midlands outfit at home yesterday – Roy Hodson’s West Brom. All the focus was on AVB’s first Chelsea home game, with the majority of Chelsea fans eagerly rubbing their hands together at the prospect of another 6-0, possibly with Torres scoring against his old gaffer. In fact, it was all a bit more tight than that…

England's friendly with Holland called-off but third Test still on

England's football friendly with Holland at Wembley has been cancelled due to the escalating violence in London.

"It is with regret that tomorrow's [Wednesday 10 August] international fixture with Holland at Wembley has been called-off," the FA said in a statement released on Tuesday morning.

The escalation in violence had led to serious concerns about the Metropolitan police deploying a significant number of officers at Wembley during a time when they may be needed to keep order elsewhere. The Dutch team were due to fly out of Amsterdam at lunchtime on Tuesday.

The Spanish journalist, girlfriend of Real Madrid's goalkeeper, had an attack of jealousy and vetoed his stunning Mexican reporter.

Iker Casillas came to Mexico with his girlfriend Sara Carbonero, among other things, to relax and record an advertising of the paradise resort city of Cancun.

All good up there, until suddenly entered the scene Gaby Elizalde, spectacular journalist of the "Futbol para todos (Football for All)" Fox Sports who had good intentions to interview successful Spanish keeper, who attended the press at his hotel, but Sara Carbonero not stand the 'competition ' and strongly opposed the appointment from her boyfriend and the Mexican reporter.

One of the compelling reasons of jealous rage of Sara Carbonero have to do with the brutal figure Elizalde has, who this year posing as God brought her to world in the journal "H Extremo. "

The interview was frustrated, but Gaby did not remain silent and advised in their own twitter: "Women not be jealous of your boyfriends. Feel safe. "Gol de Mexico!
