UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between the clubs on 27 April.
The proceedings have been launched on the basis of evidence provided by Real Madrid (video and statement of club and player). The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Sunday 15 May and the decision will be communicated to the club on Monday 16 May.

I'm just glad they finally decided to do something about it. What do you think the outcome will be?

If I was to guess at the outcome I'd say Busquets will be fined and may well be suspended from the final although I wouldn't bet on it. I'm curious to know how Barcelona will respond.

Date: 2011-05-12 03:31 pm (UTC)If UEFA don't ban him for a few games at least then he will be getting off very lightly. Considering they're supposed to be cracking down on racism, when he's found guilty (because if he isn't then there is seriously something wrong) they should be making an example out of him to show that racism is not ok, ever.
Also, it's heartbreaking to see Marcelo especially is still getting victimized by disgusting comments from fans. Even though you can see his team mates work really hard to try and make it a joke so he doesn't get upset about it, it's got to hurt to hear people saying such things in the first place.

Date: 2011-05-12 04:03 pm (UTC)Who would have thought that the UEFA would actually do something about this? I'm quite shocked. Yes, my opinion of them is really that low.
I want to see what Barcelona says/does about this. And how Pep reacts to this as well.

Date: 2011-05-12 04:17 pm (UTC)I'm glad for Marcelo (and Real Madrid, and indeed, for football in general) that this is finally being addressed, but I'm still so pissed off that it not only happened in the first place, but that it's taken so long to address it.
Barcelona has fucked up beyond words in how they've handled this. Let's see if somebody can finally fix that.
