Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Robbie Fowler wears Fernando Torres jersey in charity event to highlight his disgust at the Spaniard's move

They obviously couldn't be bothered to display a picture of him in said shirt though

If you read more, the headline will make sense...maybe )

Stay classy Mr Fowler... :/ Personally I think this is ridiculous (the fact he feels the need to talk about it/wear a Liverpool shirt, even if it has Torres's name on it), then again, I also think it's ridiculous that he plays for Perth Glory *ahem* oh wait, he pretty much IS Perth Glory...

I just noticed that the article doesn't explain (of course it doesn't) that The Shirts That Hurt was a thing where people wore their most hated rival team's gear in the name of charity.

North Queensland Fury owner Don Matheson is adamant Robbie Fowler will honour his two-year contract with the A-League club, insisting the former Liverpool striker would only leave "over my dead body".

Rumours in Australia have suggested Fury's marquee striker has fallen out with head coach Ian Ferguson and could be looking to leave the club.

But Matheson stressed their [sic] was no rift between the two and is confident Fowler remains very much a part of the club's long-term plans.

"He's leaving over my dead body and I own and run the club, so that's where that all finishes," he told The World Game.

"Robbie's an outstanding lad and a great footballer, probably the best thing that has happened to the A-League to date.

"I'm sure the coach has his expectations and they'll work through that. If I thought there was an issue I'd deal with it in a flash."

...Uh, say what now? Oof, who wishes he would just retire...

FOWLER: I'D LOVE TO MANAGE LIVERPOOL

Video: http://www.setanta.com//uk/Videos/football/2009/06/04/Fowlers-managerial-dream-video/

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler says he is considering becoming a football manager when he finally hangs up his boots, with ambitions to one day lead his old club.

"Anyone who says he wouldn't want to manage Liverpool is probably lying," Fowler said in an interview with SNTV. "Liverpool is a massive, massive club and anyone would want to do that."

Fowler, 34, long maintained he would make a clean break from the sport after retiring as a player, but now said it was likely he would head into management.

"I always said I would pack in young and take a break and all that,'' Fowler said.

"If you're not playing, the nearest thing to being around a football club is being a coach and manager. The older I've got I've looked into that more and more, so I probably will go down that route anyway.''
