Benny Feilhaber claimed by New England Revolution in MLS allocation process
By Steven Goff
U.S. World Cup midfielder Benny Feilhaber was selected by the New England Revolution in the MLS allocation process Tuesday.

Feilhaber, who appeared in three World Cup matches last summer, signed with MLS after three seasons in Denmark with Aarhus.

Chivas USA was atop the allocation ranking, which is utilized when U.S. national team players sign with the league. However, the club passed in order to retain the first slot and manage its salary cap for future acquisitions.

“Having Benny would’ve been great in our midfield but his salary would’ve been so high that we wouldn’t have been able to make any adjustments going forward,” Chivas USA Coach Robin Fraser said. “The summer window coming up is an important time for us and we’d like to position ourselves to make some moves that we think are going to further improve our team.”

The Philadelphia Union was second in the allocation order but had indicated in advance that Feilhaber’s contract wouldn’t fit under its salary cap. At No. 3, the Revolution claimed Feilhaber. New England could still entertain trade offers.

The Vancouver Whitecaps (Jay DeMerit), Portland Timbers (Kenny Cooper) and D.C. United (Charlie Davies) exercised their picks before the season and moved to the back of the line.

Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

American Exports: Rounding up the summer transfers

Kljestan, Beasley, White are winners; Adu, Feilhaber not so much

Post-World Cup interest in Jozy Altidore spiked, but he has stayed put at Villarreal.

AMSTERDAM — With the sound of shutting transfer windows across Europe in midweek, it's time to examine the moves made and not made by key Americans across the pond.

Some found happy new homes, but most of the name ex-pats overseas stayed put, either due to choice or a tighter European market largely focused on bargains and youth promotion.

Despite a very good performance at the World Cup, U.S. national team midfielder Benny Feilhaber still is laboring with a club in the Danish second division. It's a difficult situation for a player who deserves better, and is emblematic of a lack of real interest from European clubs in American players, many of whom did well in South Africa.

Landon Donovan, Your Teammates Say You Can’t Dance & They Should Be On Dancing!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
HollywoodLife.com reported that Landon is in talks to appear on Dancing with the Stars next season – but the soccer stud’s playmates have other ideas!

How’s this for team spirit? Although we told you that our World Cup hero, Landon Donovan, was in discussions to appear on the 11th season of Dancing with the Stars, his teammates say that he can’t dance – and that they should take his place!

“We are all better dancers than Landon!” midfielder Benny Feilhaber told HollywoodLife.com at the post-ESPY’s party at Drai’s in Los Angeles July 14, adding, “We got the moves,” while teammate Carlos Bocanegra agreed.

Fellow midfielder Stuart Holden thinks he and his teammates’ moves are SO good that they might score a spot on Dancing, too – before Landon even gets his chance. “We all should be on DWTS before Landon ever is,” he declared.

Sure, every single USA soccer stud showed off some pretty fancy footwork during the World Cup, but do they have the chops to trade in their cleats for dance shoes on network TV? Or should stop-goal king Landon, 28, represent American soccer players alone on the small screen?

Boca, Gooch, Benny, and Johnny in the magazine Interview.

At this year’s fifa World Cup in South Africa, Team USA’s four-year tour of duty culminates in an epic series of 90-minute clashes with the planet’s soccer superpowers. But in the one major sport where America is almost always the underdog, there are five secret weapons of shot-stopping, superstar-shackling, goal-plundering mass destruction who are gunning to turn david into goliath.

JOE COLE RUMOURED TO BE JOINING ARSENAL ON A 3 YR CONTRACT. SERIOUSLY? WHAT?

First I've heard of him coming to Arsenal - I thought it would end up being Spurs tbh. There is some extreme journalism fail in this piece though, with Joe and Carly's kid being called a boy, and loads of spelling mistakes, so i'm not sure how much this should be believed.

It does make sense though,  I did think they would be reluctant to leave London.

game notes

Behind the scenes of the USMNT's 2-0 win over Mexico in Columbus this February:

Back when Clint had long hair and looked creepy.

those fiiiiine gqmfs who'll be making the trip down to mexico )

FYI, this game will be on Telemundo (spanish) and mun2 (English) live at 4 PM EST tomorrow. FOR THE LAST TIME, THE GAME IS NOT ON ESPN. Idk, I think most of you guys know this from the posts in here, but there are still people posting on the US Soccer forum..."Is this game going to be on ESPN?" or "Is this game going to be on Univision?" and just....UGHHHHHHH.

ETA: APPARENTLY THE GAME WILL BE BROADCAST LIVE ON Terra.com AND IT'LL START AN HOUR BEFOREHAND. IT'LL BE IN SPANISH BUT IF YOU DON'T GET TELEMUNDO OR MUN2 AND HAVE NO OTHER PLACE TO WATCH IT, THERE'S YOUR LIVE STREAM! (and it looks decent quality too, judging by the other videos on there, so I'll have to ~decide~ if I wanna watch that or go to the Mexican restaurant to watch it)

ETA2: US Soccer has an update on all the different ways you can watch the game live and have confirmed the Terra stream option. :D
