Radamel Falcao, who is being paid £190,000 a week, has spent the best part of this season in the stands after Manchester United agreed a £16m fee to loan him from Monaco. Photograph: Paul Ellis/AFP/Getty Images

Radamel Falcao is having to ice his left knee following every training session and match to mitigate against further damage following the serious injury he suffered in January.

With Falcao already facing a fight to regain a first-team place, the condition of his knee is bound to be a factor when the club weigh up whether to make his loan permanent next summer.

Falcao was signed by Louis van Gaal on the closing day of the transfer window in a season-long deal worth £16m to Monaco. The 28-year-old had suffered anterior cruciate damage in January, an injury that prevented him from playing in Colombia’s World Cup campaign.

It's so sad. I feel bad for the guy but I'm really glad that Arsenal didn't get him.

Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

The match stats from Germany’s 2010 FIFA World Cup™ quarter-final victory over Argentina confirmed Bastian Schweinsteiger’s emergence as the pivotal figure in the three-time world champions’ exciting young team. The midfielder played the most passes and covered the greatest distance of all the players on display, and he was also named Budweiser Man of the Match.

Schweinsteiger has blossomed on South African soil, imposing his authority on the centre of the park and orchestrating his team’s play in truly impressive fashion. The player is now determined to maintain his stellar form in the semi-finals, a replay of the UEFA EURO 2008 title decider against Spain, and lead his men through to the Final in Johannesburg. On the eve of the eagerly-awaited showdown, FIFA.com spoke to Schweinsteiger about Wednesday’s clash in Durban, his new role in central midfield, and the mood in the Germany camp.

Eric Abidal and Yaya Toure have been confirmed as the first Barcelona players to come down with H1NI swine flu.

Defender Abidal was already out injured with a thigh problem, but the Catalan giants will miss midfielder Toure as they start a critical week of action with a trip to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, followed by the 'classico' against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou eight days later.
Doubts also remain over Barclenoa skipper Carles Puyol, who picked up a knock while on duty with Spain, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic could also be sidelined with a hamstring injury.
League leaders Barca are just a point ahead of arch-rivals Real, who host struggling Racing Santander in their next La Liga match.

Miroslav Klose Quarantined over Swine Flu

Miroslav Klose and his family have been quarantined after his twin sons came down with swine flu. Klose and his wife, Sylwia, are under observation and it is unclear whether he will be able to play in Germany's international exhibition against Ivory Coast next Wednesday.

Bayern Munich media director Markus Hoerwick said Thursday that "we have to wait and see how the situation develops."

England footballer Micah Richards has been stranded in a Cyprus resort after contracting swine flu.

The Manchester City defender, 21, was struck down with the bug while on holiday and is taking Tamiflu medication but has been told not to fly home until he has a clean bill of health.

The news comes as the first British case of a healthy person dying from swine flu was announced last night.

A patient from Essex succumbed to the virus - the first death in the UK of someone without any underlying health problems.

It is believed to be the first time a healthy person has died of swine flu outside the Americas, where the outbreak started.

Richards said: 'At first I thought it was a really bad chest infection, or maybe alcohol poisoning. I felt so weak I couldn't move or eat.'
'When I was told I had swine flu all sorts of things started going through my mind. You see on the news people dying of it,' he told The Sun.

The footballer - who is staying in a five-star hotel near the resort of Ayia Napa - said he hoped to be able to fly home tomorrow.

the rest of the article just talks about swine flu in general

Hopefully this'll clear up before Man City fans have to get masks with the club crest on them like this Velez Sarsfield fan. :\
