Four days after announcing the names of the candidates for the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year and the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Women’s Football for 2014 awards, FIFA and France Football have today revealed the names for the men’s awards.

Reports have emerged of a fantastic gesture from the Argentina squad that came runners-up at the World Cup after losing 1-0 to Germany in last Sunday’s final.
The World Cup runners-up donated 135,000 dollars to the paediatric cancer centre at the Hospital Garrahan in Buenos Aires.
This donation was made through the Lionel Messi Foundation that has previously given money to Hospital Garrahan.
According to widespread reports in Argentina, this donation was made at the behest of the two leaders of the Argentina side on the pitch: Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano.
Messi and his foundation have had a link to the hospital since 2010.
The World Cup bonus money that was donated will ensure better quality of care for children with cancer, with 20 clinics, 70 outpatient beds and 20 beds for prolonged chemotherapy, in a total area of 4,800 square meters.
World Cup bonuses and their use has been the subject of much controversy for countries such as Ghana and Cameroon before and during the tournament.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.
The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."
The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.
With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.
Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.
Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Fifa's fresh start; the summer's best investment; model news; plus chairman of the week
By David Hills
The Observer, Sunday 5 September 2010

Fifa's Chung Mong-joon receives his award from Nicolás Leóz.
New dawn
Man of the week: Chung Mong-joon – Sepp's new main rival in 2011's Fifa elections. Chung's Fifa credentials: a £1bn personal fortune; son of Chung Ju-yung, convicted in 1992 for misappropriating £50m; brother of Chung Mong-koo, convicted in 2007 for embezzling £45m; and regular anti-corruption talisman – last year calling his then-rival Mohamed bin Hammam a "mentally ill" man who "represents a serious lack of transparency in football".
(Also last week, boosting Chung's chances: an award for "services to football" from South American confederation president Nicolás Leóz. Leóz's own transparency highlight: being named in court as taking £85k in bribes from Fifa's marketing agency in 2000.)
Also last week
New from Sepp: a pledge to release emergency aid from Fifa's Special Projects Fund to help Pakistan's football infrastructure recover.
Sepp: "Contributing to alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity after disasters within the football family is a responsibility Fifa takes very seriously."
Last time Fifa used their £559m fund to aid disaster relief: February – sending £1.9m to Haiti. Four months later: Sepp gives £45.5m in one-off bonuses to Fifa member associations, ahead of next year's elections. "Just call it a gift!"
• Also new last week – Sepp launching this year's Fifa Fair Play Days. "These games must make an impact. They must encapsulate the sporting, moral and ethical principles for which Fifa has always stood."

Torres: “My future is in Liverpool, I have not given them just one year more”
( English translation lies here )
And the funniest thing of all is I'm not even a fan of Liverpool. But I thought you Reds might appreciate it. I know I did! And okay, I also love how Fernando totally calls out the English press for talking nonsense about him during transfer season.
Now I only hope that Al Primer Toque posts a podcast of their 'Caso Messi' show comparing Barca Messi with Argentina NT Messi. They interviewed Andres Iniesta and Angel Di Maria, to name a few, but I was distracted during the show and missed most of their points, alas.

• February: Qatari Fifa executive Mohamed Bin Hammam says he'll block Sepp Blatter's bid for a fourth term in the 2011 elections: "The time has come. Fifa needs an Asian president."
• May: Sepp publicly backs Qatar's 2022 World Cup bid. "I strongly feel the World Cup should come to Qatar!"
• August: Bin Hammam says Sepp deserves a fourth term. "Let me be very clear. I will be backing Sepp Blatter to remain in office. He is my very good friend!"' (Sepp says claims of a deal are malicious. "I have most certainly not made any sort of deal with Qatar. How could I? As president of Fifa I would never misuse my office!")
One to watch
Next for Bin Hammam instead of a run at Fifa's top job: "My aim is to run for re-election as Asian Football Confederation president in 2011. I hope I will have the full confidence of all the national associations". Bin Hammam's previous best election – last year, winning a seat on the Fifa executive board, then refusing calls for an inquiry into alleged "gross corruption" during the campaign. "It's time to move on! Turn the page. The past is the past, it's better that way."
Meanwhile...

• Captain excited about new era after 'horror' of last season
• 'Anything Messi can do, Joe can do as well, if not better'

Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool are set for a bright new era under Roy Hodgson after the "horror" of last season – and claims that the new signing Joe Cole is better than Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
Gerrard, in an interview with Match of the Day magazine, said the new manager has already given Liverpool a lift after a disappointing seventh-place finish last season.
"It's a great club and after speaking with Roy Hodgson I'm really pleased to see his plans for the club. It's a new era now – we must forget about the horror of what happened last season and get this club back to where it belongs, which is the Champions League at the very least."
Gerrard said Cole, signed in July on a Bosman from Chelsea, has the ability to drive the team forward.
"[Lionel] Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better. He used to shock us in training by doing footy tricks with a golf ball that most players can't even do with a football. I really fancy Joe for the [player of the year] award this season."

FERNANDO TORRES has no intention of quitting Liverpool FC, Roy Hodgson insisted today.
The new Liverpool boss described mass speculation linking Torres with a possible move away from Anfield as"erroneous" and said he was looking forward to Torres returning to training at Melwood on Monday.
Hodgson said, "As far as I know, he's looking forward to coming back here on Monday.
"He's enjoying a holiday which is a well-deserved break - he's spending a lot of time with his family and as far as I know, he's keeping a very low level and not really speaking to anyone.
"But he has told us that he's looking forward to Monday, looking forward to getting back to work and looking forward to playing for Liverpool next season.
"That's what I know so all other reports, I would suggest, are erroneous."
Hodgson also confirmed Javier Mascherano has asked to leave the club but he insisted the Argentinian skipper would only leave if and when the club decided he could.
Said Hodgson, "He wants to leave the club, he's made that perfectly clear.
"He wanted to leave a year ago and he wants to leave now as well but he's contracted to Liverpool Football Club so whether he leaves or not will be our decision."
