Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

COPA LIBERTADORES - FINAL MATCH

X

Tonight is the last day of Libertadores, the most prestigious club competition in South American football (SA Champions League). The name of the tournament is a homage to the Libertadores (Portuguese and Spanish for Liberators), the main leaders of the independence wars of South America. The winner plays at the FIFA Club World Cup, a competition contested between the champion clubs from all six continental confederations.

So I thought I might sum it up a bit:

Sir Alex Ferguson described new signing Javier Hernandez as "first class'' after the striker scored against Manchester United as they went down to a 3-2 defeat by Chivas Guadalajara on the final game of their Americas tour.

Hernandez played the first half for his old club and the second for his new side and made an immediate impact as he netted after just eight minutes, to the delight of the crowd at the new Estadio Omnilife.

"Chicharito was first class, Ferguson said. "His goal for Chivas was a marvellous strike. He showed his real qualities.

"Chivas played very well and they were very quick. They pressed the ball well and made things difficult for us. They deserved to win.

"As for us, we've been away for three weeks. We've done lots of travelling and I think the players need to go home and rest now.''

After completing the first 45 minutes for the Mexican side, Hernandez changed teams and played for United until the hour mark.

"It was always my intention to give him only 15 minutes of the second half as he is in the process of recovering from the World Cup,'' Ferguson said.

"He will now do some fitness training and endurance work when he arrives in Manchester and he will play more games.''

Manchester United have completed the deal to sign Javier Hernandez after the Mexico striker was granted a work permit on Thursday.

United last month agreed a fee with Mexican side Chivas de Guadalajara for the 22-year-old before the player also completed a medical and agreed personal terms.

United had only been awaiting confirmation of his work permit to complete his transfer, which will go through on July 1.

Hernandez's confirmation as a United player had been held up because he had played less than 75% of Mexico's internationals during the past two years.

He is, however, set to be a part of the Mexico squad at the World Cup finals in South Africa following which he is due to join United's squad for the Philadelphia leg of their pre-season tour of the United States and Canada.

Hernandez, who is nicknamed 'Chicharito', described his move to Old Trafford as "living the dream" after he completed his medical in Manchester last month.

United fans got a quick glimpse of his talents when he made a substitute appearance for Mexico against England in their 3-1 defeat at Wembley on Monday, before he scored in a 2-1 friendly loss against Holland last night.

Hernandez's signing is the first time that United have done a deal for a Mexican player.

His First match with ManU will be vs Chivas on July, 30th.

JAVIER "CHICHARITO" HERNANDEZ
TO MANCHESTER UNITED.

Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Mexican club, Chivas de Guadalajara for the purchase of 21 year-old Mexican striker Javier Hernandez, better known as “Chicharito,” for an undisclosed fee, subject to a successful application for a UK work permit.

Personal terms have been agreed and Javier passed a medical in Manchester this week.

The application for the work permit will be submitted shortly. If a permit is granted, Javier will become a Manchester United player on 1 July 2010. As part of the deal, the Club will play a match to open the new 45,000 capacity Chivas Stadium in Guadalajara as part of its 2010/11 season preparations.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "I am delighted to reach agreement with Chivas to bring such an exciting young striker, who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country. He will be a great addition to our squad and we look forward to welcoming our first Mexican player in the summer.

“We are equally excited to play our first game in Mexico, opening the magnificent new Chivas Stadium in July."
