Greetings, ontd_fb. I've lurked this comm on and off since the world cup two years ago, today I finally have something to contribute.

The rest on my facebook (public link):

If there's anything people would like to use/repost, take whatever, no crediting necessary; but it'd be nice if you leave a comment and let me know where it's going. Cheers.

Edit: I know if I was crazy enough I could have tried stalking/paparazzi stuff, but I did the whole ambushing Liverpool players outside Melwood thing last month and didn't like it much (was great to have the chance to say encouraging things to the players but camera in their face without permission didn't feel nice at all).

Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Italy can bounce back - Prandelli

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

New Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has vowed to lead the Azzurri into a "positive" new era following their early World Cup exit in South Africa.

Prandelli officially succeeded Marcello Lippi as coach on Thursday on a four-year contract, with his first match against the Ivory Coast on 10 August.
And despite World Cup draws with Paraguay and New Zealand and a defeat by Slovakia, Prandelli is optimistic.

"I want to transform the negativity into something positive," he said.

"What has happened has happened. I hope to organise a team based on real human values. There are difficulties, but I want to start off right, with determination and the will to do well.

"I don't have any recipes at the moment, just the will to start well."

Report: Roma Star Daniele De Rossi Admitted To Hospital With Renal Colic

The midfielder has been forced to return to the Gemelli Hospital just days after undergoing cheekbone surgery...

Daniele De Rossi - Roma (Adidas)

Il Tempo newspaper reports that Roma midfield ace Daniele De Rossi has been re-admitted to the Gemelli Hospital after feeling ill yesterday morning.

It is believed the 26-year-old suffered an attack of renal colic and was ordered to stay overnight, after undergoing a series of medical tests throughout the day.

Roma have been tight-lipped on the incident so far, but Il Tempo claim that it’s too early to say whether De Rossi will need to go under the knife.

“I visited him in his room and he was really in pain, so he must rest,” head nurse Suor Luisa told the newspaper.

“I don’t know how long it will take, but I’m sure he will recover soon as Roma and the national team are waiting for him.”

De Rossi had been at this same hospital on Monday when he underwent surgery on a fractured cheekbone after being accidentally elbowed by Inter midfielder Patrick Vieira during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at the San Siro.

Sorry everyone, my laptop cord needed to be replaced & I was stuck over a week w/o my computer. I was halfway through getting pics from the CL games when it started failing on me. I feel awful to have deprived you so much Serie A goodness.

Pics are in no particular order. The first day's pics are from daylife. For some reason daylife doesn't have any pics up for the second day, so they're a mishmash of getty, yahoo sports & some from their official sites.

Four Italian teams spent the last two days qualifying for either the Champions League or the Europa League.

Fiorentina made it to the Champions League draw (and into the group w/ Liverpool, Lyon & Debreceni). A handful of pics & video highlights under the cut.

Viola/Sporting: 16 pics & highlights )

The rest were trying to make sure they qualified for the Europa League. All 3 made it, some found it easier than others. Roma, Genoa & Lazio highlights w/ a few pics under the cut.

Roma, Genoa & Lazio: 15 pics & highlights )

The Europa League draw is today (as I'm writing this at 3 am) and in fact in a few hours 12:45 CET (6:45 EDT... ew). Find info about the draw and the different pots here.

On a league note, if you don't already watch Serie A, might I suggest starting this weekend? The infamous Derby della Madonnina (Milan derby) is Saturday. For those of you in the US it's being broadcast live on FSC @ 2:30 pm EDT. Roma plays Juve at home, also live on FSC @ noon EDT on Sunday. It'll be interesting to see if I come out of that one alive or w/ my sanity intact. Also just after that, again live on FSC (I sound like a commercial for Fox) @ 2:30 EDT is the Viola/Palermo match, which should also be a doozy.

I can has a Europa League tag? Thank you! ♥

In the last month or so, I've noticed we have a few Serie A fans on here-- and maybe some others who are interested in the league. And why wouldn't you be, it's the hottest damn league around. (Yes, I am biased.) I actually had some sort of random thought about doing a weekly SA wrap-up when I saw the Bundesliga wrap-up posts. Then I saw [livejournal.com profile] xfrerardaddictx (bb, hope I'm not treading on your toes) posted the classifica and there was a bit of spammage in the comments. I do spammage, video highlights, etc each week for the SA thread on Kickette. I'm going to post what I posted there, here.

I spam & post highlights for: Roma, Juve, Inter, Milan, Fiorentina, Napoli & Cagliari. I'm open to doing other teams, so all you have to do is ask. It's always easier to find pics for Milan, Inter & Juve, but I'll try regardless. I also try to post highlights of any badass game that didn't involve any of those teams.

Borri is seducing you into checking out the spammage.

Warning: Pic heavy.

IL GIORNO PRIMO

Bologna/Fiorentina: 22 pics & highlights )

Milan/Siena: 72 pics & highlights )

IL GIORNO SECONDO

Inter/Bari: 52 pics & highlights )

Juve/Chievo: 46 pics & highlights )

Palermo/Napoli: 27 pics & highlights )

Livorno/Cagliari: 22 pics & highlights )

Genoa/Roma: 30 pics & highlights )

Generally, I'd post the classifica (standings) here, but since [livejournal.com profile] xfrerardaddictx already did, I'll leave it out.

NB: If you are a fan of Serie A, any of these teams, the Azzurri or the Azzurrini-- you really should check out/join [livejournal.com profile] ahh_serie_a. Their spams are epic, well-organized, w/ witty commentary intertwined w/ a game summary.

Opening weekend of Serie A brought to you by Leonardo.

Roma Star De Rossi To Be Appointed 'Knight Of Rome'

The Italian international will be recognized with an Italian order of merit...

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi will be appointed a Cavaliere di Roma on May 25, according to romagiallorossa.com.

The prize is an honour given out as recognition to service to the Italian public and is similar in some ways to being knighted in the United Kingdom.

Giallorossi talisman Francesco Totti has already received the honour earlier in his career and is set to be present and be a part of the ceremony for his team-mate.

The ceremony will also mark the first 'Flag of Football' award given out in honour of late Roma president Franco Sensi. The former club patron passed away this summer, with his daughter now in charge of the club. The prize will recognize those who have represented the history of the team and the winner will be chosen by the Sensi family.

De Rossi was born in Roma and has played his whole career with the club, making over 250 appearances in all competitions.

Mourinho charged after Juventus comments

Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho has been charged by the Italian football federation for comments made in Tuesday's press conference where he claimed Juventus are benefiting from questionable refereeing decisions in Serie A.

The former Chelsea manager set off a storm when he made the comment in response to Juve coach Claudio Ranieri's remarks that he sympathised with his Roma counterpart Luciano Spalletti after Inter were granted a controversial penalty in a 3-3 draw with the capital club at the weekend.

Reports on Wednesday suggested the Italian federation (FIGC) had taken a dim view of the matter and were on the verge of charging Mourinho, something they confirmed on Thursday.

"The federal prosecutor Stefano Palazzi....has cited the Inter coach Jose Mourinho for violation of article 5.1 for his comments made to the media," read part of a statement released by the FIGC.

Inter striker Mario Balotelli has been charged with making "offensive gestures against an opposing player", while Roma's Daniele De Rossi also been charged - for his comments after the game against referees.

All three face either a fine or a ban, while their clubs have also been cited.

Roma Midfielder De Rossi Rages At Referees After Inter Draw

The temporary Giallorossi captain took his frustration out on the officials after the draw at the San Siro...

Roma were held to a 3-3 draw against Inter, twice leading by a two goal margin at the San Siro, only to see it evaporate.

Daniele De Rossi wore the captain's armband in the absence of Francesco Totti and has echoed the statements of coach Luciano Spaletti by pointing the finger at the officiating, particularly with regards to Mario Balotelli's penalty in the second-half.

"We can only hope the referees are poor or inattentive because whenever we come to Milan it always goes the same way," raged the 25-year-old to Sky, who missed a glorious chance from close range at the end of the match to give the Giallorossi a victory.

"I already lost a championship here to Inter and it is driving me crazy, I'm going mad. We are always asked to help the referees, we will try, but it is useless. You have all seen what happened."

De Rossi, who scored the opening goal against Inter, and his teammates have a week rest before hosting Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico and then taking on Arsenal in the second-leg of their Champions League encounter on March 11.
