Apologies for not posting this before AFCON got started. I guess now you can look and see if World Soccer's analysis was remotely close to what happened in the group stages. ;-P There are write ups for all of the other teams (like Gabon, Senegal, South Africa, and Cameroon) but I omitted them since this post is pretty long. If you would like to see them, let me know and I'll do another post.

The Tribute Award has been given out to the likes of Arsène Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson, Thierry Henry, David Beckham, The Special One and a bunch of other people. For any newcomers, it's an award that's handed out annually to people who the committe believes has contributed to the national game in a significant way. (Thanks Wikipedia! thumbsup.jpg)
Mou led the tributes to the Chelsea striker, touching on the first time he saw Didier and some of the mouments he felt best represented the legendary striker as a person. The Special One also called Drogba, who signed with Chelsea in 2004, one of the best buys the club has ever made (thanks sugar daddy Roman ♥♥♥).
And so the bard known as Mourinho strummed his lute and began his tale...
( Arrrre ya achin'? (Yup yup yup) Fooor some bacon? (Yup yup yup) Heeee's a big pig (Yup yup)! You could be a big pig, too! OY! )
source for the speech thing. I advise against drinking and posting, typing gets difficult later on D: also apologies for the size of the text! I somehoww borked the html and cannot, for the life of me, fix it...
What's a Didier post without this iconic moment?

Times are GMT. Click to enlarge. First set of games kick off at 2:00PM GMT.
The following countries are already qualified for AFCON 2015: Cape Verde, Algeria, Tunisia, South Africa, Cameroon, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Senegal. Morocco had to forfeit their bye with the AFCON 2015 location change to Equatorial Guinea, from what I understand. Not sure if Equatorial Guinea is taking their spot or if they are still disqualified. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Chelsea striker has decided to focus on his club career after scoring 65 goals in 104 appearances for the Elephants
Cote d'Ivoire icon Didier Drogba has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 36.
The Chelsea striker represented the Elephants at this summer's World Cup in Brazil but has now decided to focus on his club career after scoring 65 times in 104 appearances for his country.
"It is with much sadness that I have decided to retire from international football," Drogba wrote in a statement released on Friday.
"These past 12 years in the national team have been full of emotions. From my first call-up to my last match, I have always tried to give my best for my country.
"I am very proud to have been captain of this team for eight years and to have contributed to placing my country on the world stage of football, taking part in three World Cups and two African Cup of Nations finals.
"I cannot convey enough thanks to the fans for all the love and support during these years. All my goals, all my caps, all our victories are for you - I love you."

Drogba Returns!

The 36-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the club and admits Jose Mourinho was a key factor in his decision to return to Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have completed the signing of Didier Drogba on a one-year contract.
The 36-year-old returns to Stamford Bridge having left in 2012 after winning the Champions League.
Drogba, who featured for Ivory Coast at the World Cup earlier this summer, has scored 157 goals in 341 appearances for Chelsea and has also won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups with the club.

picture has practically no relevance but I <3 Nora so allow
Basically this, but for the last season. The scorer of the winning goal is the one who got the goal that meant you won the match, so in a 2-1 win it would be the person who scored your second goal, and in a 4-1 win it would also be the person who scored your second goal. This is sposed to be quite objective and bullet-proof, so that even if it’s like a 6-1 over QPR where Torres scored three of those goals, the goal that would matter here is the second chronological one for Chels, which John Terry scored.
(for games over two legs, I’ve done the scorer of the winning goal on aggregate and thus discounted the first game (unless the first game was where the winning goal was scored). So say the aggregate score was 5-4, the person who scored the fifth, rather than the person who scored the winner on the night, I’ve counted as the winner. But this one is subjective! Also if a game finished a draw and was decided by penalties, I’ve picked the scorer of the winning penalty)
