First up: After the win against Macedonia, Sergio Ramos joins Xavi Hernandez and Iker Casillas in the list of players with the most wins for their NT! Yeah, that's right. The three players with the most international wins are Spanish. Ramos made it 94 wins that night, equalling him to the French Lilian Thuram and Egyptian Ahmed Hassam who are now retired players.  The next Spaniard on the list is Xabi Alonso who retired with 88 wins. ANYWAY, you can discuss this further in the post made by lovely [livejournal.com profile] mrscrapbag. :)

Second: Did you all see Sergio's Panenka penalty goal in the Macedonia match? Pretty cool, right? Well, apparently he wasn't supposed to take that spot! According to Del Bosque, Cesc Fabregas was first on the list of penalty takers but Sergio decided to gallop around going "ME! ME! I WANNA TAKE IT!" Del Bosque says "There was a little debate between them, but it was not important." Mmm. Sergio asserting his dominance over Cesc... or Assistant Coach Toni Grande. Well, either way, Sergio Ramos asserting his dominance, rawr~

Third: I don't have a third so have a gif/pic spam!

The Pretty Pony is a Sexy Stallion! )
Sergio Ramos thanks you for your time.

So RTVE are currently keeping us updated with the NT's movements in preparation for the celebrations later this evening which in general is:

"The agenda of the day for the Spanish team. At 15:00CEST they will arrive at Barajas Airport, at 17:00CEST they will be received by King Juan Carlos at the Zarzuela Palace . Later, from 18:00CEST, in an open-top bus, the players will make their particular parade the streets of Madrid, until 20:30CEST to arrive at the Plaza de Cibeles ."

So I declare this the party/celebration post and while we wait for the celebrations to begin, feel free to post pics/celebration pics etc

Also, what do you think Pepe's player introductions will be this year? Can he improve on Euro '08 and WC '10?

08 and 10 recaps  )

UEFA to hit yellow card cheats with two-match ban

NYON, Switzerland (AFP) – Footballers who deliberately set out to get a second yellow card in order to give them a clean slate for later in a competition will now receive a two-match ban, UEFA secretary general Gianni Infantino said on Friday.

"Usually this type of behaviour is penalised by a fine but now there will be a match ban in addition to that given automatically for the accumulation of two yellow cards," said Infantino.

Barcelona's Andres Iniesta was accused of deliberately setting out to get a yellow card during the Spanish club's 5-1 Champions League quarter-final first leg match against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Camp Nou, meaning he missed the return leg but had a disciplinary clean slate for the April 27 semi-final match against arch-rivals Real.

UEFA match officials had proposed suspending Iniesta for an extra match for allegedly incurring the yellow card deliberately, but dismissed the call for the extra match suspension or even a fine for the midfielder.

In similar cases UEFA fined Spanish club Villarreal 60,000 euros and striker Nilmar and midfielder Santiago Cazorla 20,000 euros for yellow cards incurred at the end of the Europa League quarter-final away leg at Twente (5-1).

Suspended for the return leg they were then free to play in the semi-final away leg at Porto on April 28 without risking a new yellow card.

It's the Sids 2011! The complete review of the past La Liga season

From an amazing managerial achievement to perhaps the greatest assist ever, it's time for the annual end-of-season Spanish football awards

Eighteen days in the spring defined and decided the season. Finally, the inevitable happened and the curtain came down on the rest of Spain, leaving Real Madrid and Barcelona to fight it out for absolutely everything. The clásico series felt like the obvious conclusion, two-and-a-half weeks that acted as a microcosm of the season. The best two sides became the only two sides, league, Champions League and Copa del Rey their own private battleground, and as much of the spotlight was shone off the pitch as on it – where there were accusations and acrimony, formal complaints and a complete lack of class. Where it got genuinely pretty horrible. Just as it was always going to.

Do you agree ontd_fb? Any other contenders/awards that are worth noting?

I'm sure I speak for the majority of us when I say we wept with joy when Iker held aloft the coveted Copa Del Rey trophy, not even 6 hours ago as we envisaged the scene as the Copa Del Rey joined all the other trophies in the Real Madrid trophy cabinet - for the next year at least.

Therefore it is with a sad and heavy heart that we have to report to you that the cup is no longer with us, it was a most unfortunate victim of Sergio "Cup Killer" Ramos who heartlessly threw the cup over the safety barrier, despite knowing that a fall from such a great hight, and with the high speed the bus was travelling at, there would be no hope of survival for the poor defenceless Cup.

As soon as the others realised his dastardly plan they tried to stop him but it was too late, and the Cup had already been dropped over the side and was lying mangled beneath the bus. First responders on the scene tried valiantly to save it but despite their best efforts it was just too late and there was nothing that could be done to save it.

Under the cut, a pic and video of the brutal assault, those of a nervous disposition should not click )

RIP Copa Del Rey, though we only had you with us for a short time, you will always have a place in our hearts

Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Ramos transfer scramble begins after Ronaldo bust-up

Reports emanating from Spain this evening suggest that Sergio Ramos could be on the verge of leaving Real Madrid in the transfer window with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United on red alert.

Ramos, 24, has been at the Bernabeu since 2005 when he moved from Sevilla for a fee in the region of 27 million euros. The talented defender who can play at right back and centre-half was a key member of Spain’s European Championship win in 2008 and their World Cup win last summer.

The Madrid defender is considered one of the top defenders in world football and has been linked previously with the aforementioned English quartet. The versatile stopper will not be short of suitors if reports are confirmed that the club are open to offers for the Spanish international.

Reports in Spain suggest the reason for a move is a fall-out with star player Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as a breakdown in the re-negotiation of the player's new long-term deal at the Bernabeu. There is a suggestion Ronaldo has divided opinion in the Madrid locker room to such an extent, Ramos is seriously considering quitting the Bernabeu.
Renowned Le Parisien French football journalist Julien Laurens based in London, broke the news, revealing on his Twitter page that the talented Madrid defender could leave the Spanish giants.

“I've been told that Sergio Ramos could leave #RealMadrid. He would be perfect at #arsenal. World class player who'll bring winning mentality.”
