Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Most of the coaches in the World Cup were players themselves, some of them even played in the World Cups of yesteryear. I was just curious what they looked like when they played years ago.

I included everyone there were photos for. I left out Dunga because he's pretty young and well known, there isn't anything particularly remarkable to find.

My first post on LJ ever, so I'm a bit of a noob.

negl, I'd hit it.

FIFA has banned players from taking their shirts off, I think they should bring back shorter shorts. TV then can replay th'highlights. )

Outgoing French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes believes Nicolas Anelka should never play for his national side again.

The Chelsea striker was disgracefully sent home during the World Cup by Raymond Domenech after he refused to apologise for his half-time dressing-room bust up with the former coach.

This event triggered a mutiny within the French camp, with players refusing to train in support of Anelka.

Les Blues went on to lose their final group game against hosts South Africa.

Escalettes, who resigned from his post in the wake of France’s woeful campaign, was speaking to the Cultural Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, which has held an inquest into France’s disastrous World Cup tournament.

“Neither I nor my successor, nor the future coach will forget what happened and everyone will ensure that he can not play for France," Escalettes said at the meeting.

Escalettes found out about the dressing-room incident during France’s second World Cup game against Mexico from reading L’Equipe.

"As soon as I knew, and having made a minimum of checks - a player told me that the remarks were worse than reported - I immediately punished the perpetrator of this insult," he said.

Domenech, who was also at the hearing, was required to explain why he refused to shake the hand of South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira following their defeat.

At the time, Domenech said he was reacting to Parreira’s comments regarding Thierry Henry’s handball against Ireland, which helped them to qualify for the tournament.

"The whole of France being well-meaning and so quick to make moral found no fault with the accusations of Mr Parreira," said Domenech.

"It is important for me to defend the image of the France team. I probably did not measure the negative media coverage of my gesture.

"I probably should have told him directly and discreetly."

LMAO i found this here and i loved it so here it is !

"It's not time for bilans yet, it's time for feelings and emotion right now"

The French NT refused to make a bilan of the 6 years he spent in charge of Les Bleus. "I'm sad" he said, before wishing luck to all people who will take his succession.
"It's not time for bilans. I'll do it with staff, players, chairmen...It's never good to explain 6 years in charge of a team right after a game."

"I'm telling you again, it's a real pain, a disillusion for the supporters, and for French football."
M. Domenech, who has refused to explain why he didn't want to shake SA Coach's hand, wishes luck to his successor, Laurent Blanc. "I'm the first French NT fan. I wish him all the best. I loved this French NT. It'll never dies, it's gonna live forever. This team has a real potential" he asserted.
We wish we could have seen this in South Africa.

Patrice Evra goes AWOL and is dropped as Captain.

(Reports suggest that FIFA are launching an investigation into the defender's absence.)

Raymond Domenech: "This is not a problem of trust, but rather a question of psychological and physical condition to play the game."

Alou Diarra will be captain, and for the first time.

Domenech has indicated that some big names might be dropped against South Africa on Tuesday and French officials believe that Gallas and Henry were involved in the controversy.

French official Henri Monteil to The Sun: "The leaders are players who'll never play in a World Cup again. Who? William Gallas, Eric Abidal and Thierry Henry, who is friends with Nicolas Anelka." -OUCH-

Domenech refuses to shake Parreira's hand, wags finger

France's 2-1 loss to South Africa sealed an embarrassing end to a shameful World Cup appearance that included everything from Nicolas Anelka being sent home early to the team boycotting a training session and the team's sponsors abandoning them. The gross displays, however, just kept coming.

Once the final whistle blew, French manager Raymond Domenech - whose successor, Laurent Blanc, already was named before the tournament even started - began the customary ritual of shaking hands with those around him, but when South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira offered his hand and a smile, Domenech shook his finger at him and tried to walk away.

Parreira grabbed him by the jacket and tried to talk to him, but Domenech - a man who called his own team "unspeakably stupid" before the match - decided to continue with his uncouth behavior and lecture the Brazilian with an abundance of finger pointing.

Once the press got a hold of Domenech, he didn't offer any answers for his actions. From the AFP:

"I have no intention of replying to this question," he said.

"Is there another question?" he asked after the question was posed to him again by another journalist.

A third tried his luck: "Why are you refusing to answer this question?"

Domenech responded: "Is there another question?"

"If these are all the questions you are going to ask me, I am going to leave you, we are not from the same world,"
he added later, in response to a question about the crisis in the French team.

Well, that is true. After all of Domenech's astrology-based roster decisions, post-match marriage proposals, and complete inability to maintain order in his team, I'll agree that he's probably not from the same world. Parreira, meanwhile, at least tried to explain the rudeness he was subjected to:

"I believe it was because I had criticised his team after they qualified (when they controversially beat Ireland in the play-offs), but I really don't remember.

"This is what his assistants told me."

So in the end, it all goes back to Ireland and that Thierry Henry handball. Of course. And while the French keep finding new ways to embarrass themselves, their own fans even abandoning them to root for South Africa, the Irish are eating their free pizza and laughing. Laughing and laughing and laughing.

Follow-up on the raucous events deemed to have taken place in the French NT by newspaper l'Équipe: Gourcuff ostracised and victim of plot to bring him down by fellow top players, notably Anelka and "thuggish bully" Ribéry. Nicolas Anelka scathingly insulting Coach Raymond Domenech.

Today in tv program TéléFoot, Domenech and Ribéry have come forward to give their version of the events. And quite the deflated version.

*It's a bit teary-eyed and with a lump in the throat that Ribéry made an unscheduled appearance on the studio. He apologized to the French for the team's mediocrity and their lack of collective effort, and denied having any issue with team mate Gourcuff: "I was the first to go talk to him, because he's someone we need". He admits to being hurt by the attacks against him, and considers the rumours to be "nonsense".

*Raymond Domenech deplored that the "incident" with Anelka was brought to the press and blown out way out of proportion. For him, it was an internal matter that should have been dealt with as such.

ETA2: And the drama goes on! Evra almost got into a fight with fitness coach Duverne, apparently on the subject of the refusal of the players to train in a sign of protest against Anelka's exclusion. *barf* way to put the NT first, b/c God knows you don't need more training! KNYSNA, South Africa — France team director Jean-Louis Valentin says the national team is refusing to train following a dispute on the practice field.
Valentin also says he has resigned from the French football federation, shouting that he was "ashamed" of the team.
The team arrived at training Sunday but a few minutes after taking the field, fitness coach Robert Duverne stormed away from an argument with coach Raymond Domenech. Duverne threw his accreditation badge to the ground after the heated discussion and walked away.
The players then boarded the team bus.
The French team is in disarray after striker Nicolas Anelka was sent home for insulting Domenech, whose tactics and management skills have been called into question.

Nice guys always finish last

Socially isolated and largely anonymous on the pitch, Yoann Gourcuff has endured a disquieting start to his first World Cup campaign with France.

The Bordeaux playmaker has long been considered his country's natural heir to Zinedine Zidane, but his ineffective performance in Friday's 0-0 draw with Uruguay has added weight to calls from him to be dropped.

At 23 and with only 21 caps to his name, Gourcuff is experiencing for the first time the unique claustrophobia of a major tournament.

In France's opening match against the Uruguayans, the former AC Milan player looked hesitant and uncomfortable, frequently giving the ball away despite his deserved reputation as a midfielder of supreme technical quality.
