FIFA evaluates US ability to host 2022 World Cup
(AP) – 5 hours ago

GENEVA (AP) — FIFA says the United States bid needs stronger guarantees of federal government support and Qatar's desert heat could put players' health at risk at a 2022 World Cup.

In case you didn't know, FIFA are apparently embarrassed/pissed off by the British media's investigations into claims of corruption and scandal... they say that the journalists should have brought the evidence to them rather than publishing it.  And for that, England will probably lose their bid.

Meanwhile, the US bid for 2022 is still on track... with a little help from Billy C.

Asia's four musketeers may hardly be fighting "all for one" in the race to host the 2022 World Cup but they all agree as to which nation presents the greatest threat to their ambitions: the United States. "It's CONCAFAF's turn for 2022, it's as simple as that" said USA 2022 Bid Chairman Sunil Gulati at a conference in London in October. "It's Asia's turn," Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Mohamed Bin Hammam said the day after. "With two-thirds of the world's population, we should host the World Cup more often."

England's 2018 World Cup bid demands apology from rivals Russia

England's 2018 bid team have made a formal complaint to Fifa following derogatory comments by their main rival Russia about London. Officials have demanded a public apology after Alexei Sorokin, the Russian bid leader, last week highlighted London's "high crime rate" and youth alcohol problems.

England 2018 believe his claims contravene Fifa's bidding rules prohibiting comments about rival World Cup bidders and the governing body will write to Sorokin seeking an explanation.

Fifa officials 'offer to sell 2018 World Cup bid votes'

Two Fifa officials have offered to sell their votes in the contest to host the 2018 World Cup, according to a Sunday Times report.

The newspaper has video footage in which Nigerian Amos Adamu, a Fifa executive committee member, appears to ask for £500,000.

This is completely against Fifa rules.

And Oceania Football Confederation president Reynald Temarii, wanted money for a sports academy for his vote, the newspaper alleged.

England are competing to host the tournament in eight years time, as well as Russia and joint bids from Spain and Portugal and Holland and Belgium.

A 24-strong committee will decide by secret ballot on 2 December who should host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

The footage, filmed by undercover Sunday Times journalists, shows Adamu wanting money to be paid to him directly for endorsing a bid.

The reporters had posed as lobbyists for a United States bid. The US decided on Friday to withdraw from the running for the 2018 World Cup and instead concentrate on the 2022 competition.

In the video, Adamu was asked whether the money for a "private project" would have an effect on the way he voted, he replied: "Obviously, it will have an effect. Of course it will. Because certainly if you are to invest in that, that means you also want the vote."

Fifa has so far not responded to the allegations.

England and USA withdraw World Cup bids

MIAMI, Oct 15 (Reuters) - The United States has withdrawn their bid to host the 2018 World Cup and will focus entirely on their bid for the 2022 tournament, the country's bid committee said on Friday.

"For some time we have been in conversations with FIFA and UEFA about the possibility of focusing only on the 2022 bidding process, an option we have made reference to many times," said Sunil Gulati, Chairman of the USA Bid Committee and President of U.S. Soccer. "

We are confident this is in the best interests of the USA Bid," he said.

Meanwhile, England 2018/22 has confirmed to FIFA that it was withdrawing its candidature from the FIFA World Cup 2022 and will now focus on its bid to host the tournament in 2018.

This followed consultation with UEFA President Michel Platini on the most appropriate moment to withdraw.

England 2018 is delighted it is now clear the FIFA World Cup will be coming to Europe in 2018 following the withdrawal of the United States bid.

Milton Keynes part of England's 2018 World Cup bid

Milton Keynes will be part of England's 2018 World Cup bid after being named as a candidate host alongside 11 cities.

However, Derby, Hull and Leicester's applications were rejected.

London will forward four stadia to Fifa and Manchester two, with the final decision on which will be used made by football's governing body in late 2010.

Sunderland, Birmingham, Nottingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Bristol and Plymouth are the other cities to be included in the bid.

The Liverpool bid suffered a blow on the deadline day for applications when the government backed a decision to refuse planning permission for Everton's plans for a new stadium at Kirkby.

However, Anfield - or a new Anfield, should it be far enough along the planning and building process - will figure in England's bid because of its "history and tradition in English football", said Football League and selection panel chairman Lord Mawhinney.

Three stadia will be forwarded from London, Wembley Stadium, Arsenal's Emirates Stadium and either the Olympic Stadium or Tottenham's yet-to-be-built new ground.

i expect it will be the current anfield used, as with those two clowns in charge, i've probably got more chance of living on mars than a new stadium being built
