LEGEND

Edwin Van Der Sar, one of the best goalkeepers in the world during the past 2 decades, played his final match of football at Wembley against Barcelona on Saturday. He was without a doubt a remarkable player (and person) whose career began at the age of 20 at Ajax and finished at the age of 40 for Manchester United. During this time he won numerous trophies and broke numerous records.

A look back on Edwin's career!! )

IAN HOLLOWAY / BLACKPOOL APPRECIATION POST

Image and video hosting by TinyPicsomeone give this man a gq cover srsly

They brightened up the EPL with their kits, their attitude, and their flawless manager who wasn't afraid to say exactly what he thought of any situation. And now, just like that, they're gone. Unceremoniously dumped back into the abyss that is the Coca Cola npower Championship & The Football League. Let us take a look back at some of their finest moments.

And by that I mean lulzy shit Holloway said with some football thrown in along the way.

David Beckham has been given permission to play in Gary Neville’s testimonial at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The midfielder was delighted to be allowed to take part in the fixture where he will play alongside fellow United legends Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

Beckham said: 'I think Bruce (Arena, LA Galaxy coach) knows how important it is for Gary. It’s more important than anything for me to be there for Gary.'

Arena has allowed Beckham, 36, to miss out on one of the club’s upcoming fixtures in order to make the appearance after admitting he was already set for a break. 'We’d be resting David in one of the games next week anyway.'

Along with Neville, former England captain Beckham formed the right hand side of a Manchester United side that won the treble in 1999. The news will be a boost for Neville, who also enjoyed a successful partnership with Beckham for England. Earlier in the week Neville said: 'I am in contact with David. It is looking positive but we still have a couple of things to sort out.'

The date of the testimonial - just four days before United's Champions League final clash with Barcelona at Wembley - has been criticised in some quarters but Neville is adamant that the timing is right. 'Hopefully it will be an enjoyable game for the fans and, four days before Wembley, it will be like a celebration and send-off for the lads who have done so well this season.'

Although Neville is due to begin work as a Sky Sports pundit, the 36-year-old clearly has no intention of stepping back from his barely concealed love of all things United. 'I am a fan. I have always been a fan,' he said. 'I wanted to do something for the fans and have said that publicly for the last 15 years.

'This is something I know will give me satisfaction and fulfil what I believe to be a thank you, so the fans can go and enjoy it.'

Milan have had to bid adieu to star playmaker Andrea Pirlo after the Italian decided it was time to move on in his career and declined a renewal offer from the Rossoneri.

Pirlo who joined Milan in 2001 told reporters yesterday that his time with the league winners was done. He turns 32 today and the Rossoneri have paid him a tribute on their official website.

“For us, he’ll never be an opponent,” these words of team-mate Filippo Inzaghi and club CEO Adriano Galliani are used to commemorate Pirlo's time with the Rossoneri.

Pirlo also commented on his departure from Milan: "I am leaving after 10 unforgettable years. It's a consensual divorce, but I have not spoken with Juventus. I am here to say goodbye."

The Italian has won two Scudetti, two Champions Leagues, an Italian Cup as well as the Club World Cup during his time with Milan. He was also with the club during Italy's World Cup win in 2006.

It is generally thought around the peninsula that Pirlo will be joining Juventus in the coming summer. However, there have been reports linking him with a move to England in particular, Chelsea and Manchester City.

While Pirlo failed to renew his contract, two other veterans Filippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Nesta have both extended their tenures by a year each. The future of Clarence Seedorf is yet to be resolved.

Hadn't seen this posted on here, such a shame to see him leaving AC Milan, I always thought he'd retire there but good luck if he does go somewhere else this summer

Hopefully this post will be as awesome as the last couple of years' Awards posts have been and we'll have lots of (hot, suited) pics and commentary from the awards - as well as all the backstage action.

The Awards are broadcast live on MUTV if you have it, but if not there is already a stream available here and I am sure there will be more available during the evening.

After 7 years without a title, we've won our 18th SCUDETTO!

CAMPIONI D'ITALIA!!

With a new sense of teamwork, the great heart of defense made up of Thiago and Nesta, the new youngin's being awesome, our veterans showing how it's done, Allegri's tactics, our forwards' determination to score goals, we've come to the end of the season. And, of course not without the times when our team caused us heart attacks and kept us on the edge of our seats, We've managed to win the Scudetto!

So, watching Man City vs Tottenham (and with that, my boy Peterpoo scoring an own goal, oh the fail, oh the irony, oh the disgrace, oh the dsjfhdsjfhdsfdkjdfhkjhkjfhdkjfh), and, being the randy bung that I am, I realised that I could actually compile a starting XI from men on both teams who I – in my very dubious taste – consider shaggable.

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has lost his cool with Real Madrid counterpart Jose Mourinho ahead of their Champions League semi-final.

Before the first leg, Mourinho mischievously said Guardiola was a new breed of coach who criticised correct decisions by referees.

In an unusual outburst for the normally laid-back Guardiola, the Spaniard retorted: "He's the fucking boss. He's the fucking master and I can't compete with him at any instant."

the rest & a video of the presser under the cut )

lol, u mad Pep?

But srsly, what did Pep hope to achieve by trying to fight fire with fire when it comes to mind games against Jose the night before Clasico Round Three?

Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."
