Some more information about the Selecção das Quinas in Euro 2012...
We're in Group B, arguably the most difficult one and already called the 'group of death', along with Netherlands, Denmark and Germany.
The first game will be against Germany on June 9.
The second game will be against Denmark on June 13.
The third game will be against the Netherlands on June 17.
And finally, Portugal's main and alternative kits, respectively...

---
Alright, just a few final things...
I decided to make this post in order to see if I could sway some of you - at least those who are still allegiance-free or whose respective National Teams will not be playing this summer (sorry about that by the way, if thats the case...) - into supporting Portugal.
Now, I know we're not exactly Spain looks-wise, but we're still pretty damn cool and hopefully this will finally be our year (ok, now I'm sounding just like the Liverpool supporter that I am...).
Anyway, hope
(Oh, and yeah, we have really looooooong names, I know...)

Also I love you for this post!
And I'm inexpressibly proud of Rui. I'll be honored to have him in goal.

Date: 2012-05-15 12:02 am (UTC)And thank you! I know you're one of the few supporters of the Portuguese NT here on ontd_fb (I remember you from the World Cup!), but maybe we'll be able to convert a few more... ;)
Not a Sporting supporter, but he is ACE! One of the best goalkeepers around at the moment, imo.

Date: 2012-05-15 12:07 am (UTC)Spain is actually my second choice, for the simple fact that I'm part Spanish. They're also our one and only neighbour country, so... yeah. So for more than one reason I'm really glad we didn't end up in a group with them!

That's because you have REAL men in your squad. Well, except for the metrosexual who used to play for United, that is. Back when we actually won stuff. Sigh. :p

Date: 2012-05-15 01:32 am (UTC)Germany is a great team, congrats for being a fan, haha! I actually tip them to win the Euro, to be honest... They were just so consistently strong during the WC, and since I have my doubts about Spain retaining their form... We'll see.
None of those names are very common in Portugal though; Nélson and Hélder a bit more so, but Custódio is an old and currently rare name, and Képler simply doesn't exist in Portugal, only in Brazil (now they really are the kings of interesting names!).
Haha, real men? What do you mean, you think the Spanish ones aren't real? Truth be told, some of them are so god damn perfect one does wonder... The metrosexual sadly doesn't really do it for me though, not that way. ;)

I'd normally agree, but it seems to be working quite well for them these last 4 years or so... ;)
Seriously though, those handsome bastards just seem to have it all - the looks AND the talent. Unfair.

ahem.
Next up... Okay, Viana needed to be there. Carlos Martins? ugh. Ricardo Costa? benchwarming. Custodio? ehh....... Ruben Micael? I don't think he'll get much playtime. Pepe, Alves, and JP will be spending a vast majority probably sitting on cards or trying to kill someone >:| Quaresma, idkkk.
Andre Martins should be in there somewhere.
THANK THE FOOTY GODS FOR NELSON OLIVIERA BEING THERE.
Oh, and Eduardo needs to GK against Germany. Rui gets Netherlands. They can play toss up for the last one. but Eduardo's been on this season.
(psst, i love Portugal and the NT, why do I know you not? I support Benfica, Belenenses, Portimonense.. and Nuno Gomes, whereever he may go <3)

Date: 2012-05-15 03:47 am (UTC)MY BBS! Shaking and crying. I've been waiting so long to see them again. I thought this day would never come! Portugal is so underrated. People don't even realize that, even at our worst, we are an honest threat. We struggle a bit more in the WC (I was gutted when we lost to France and then lost again to Germany for third in 2006), but we are always so close in the Euros (I legit bawled when Germany beat us in '08...and losing at home in the '04 final is just madness)! This Euro is ours. It will happen! Mark my words! I cheered on Spain too in the 2010 WC because I wanted an Iberian WC final (then they knocked us out, sadly), but this year is ALL Portugal for me. No other NT matters. No other NT can compare. We are going to get what has always been so close for us. I don't particularly like Bento, but he is leagues better than the alternative. (Until Mourinho finally gives in, that is!)
IDEC what people say. Our away kit is fly as fuck. Our home kit is so plain, but has such a simple beauty. *_*
Força Portugal! :')

Date: 2012-05-15 12:12 pm (UTC)I had friends who supported Portugal in the 2004, 2006, ... tournaments because they are so good looking. :)
Now people here support Spain (for Barcelona and stuff) and the Netherlands because they are our neighbours and a lot of Belgians play in the Dutch league (we are also jealous of their success), but I never really liked them so I'll cheer for Portugal to get second place in the group. (after Germany, my one and true football love.)
Moutinho can get in mants though, definitely a hottieno subject
Date: 2012-05-15 03:43 pm (UTC)machiavelian plan for world domin...attempt of swaying people into supporting us!You know, I wish I could see it. I really do. The attractiveness of the Portuguese players, I mean. Because I love them, but for some strange reason I have this inate, complete inability of finding them even the least attractive! I don't know why, it's always been like this. There has never been one single Portuguese player I've ever fancied. (Now André Villas-Boas, on the other hand...)
Speaking of neighbouring countries, the Portuguese and the Spanish also have a long-lasting, strong love/hate relationship. I know many people who I think would support Spain if Portugal was eliminated, but I also know many who'd say 'I'd rather die than'. I'd be really curious to know if the same happens the other way around, I mean, if the Spanish would support us if they were no longer in the tournament or if they'd rather support a completely different country out of old pride.
I see Moutinho is getting a lot of love around here. ;)

Date: 2012-05-15 03:02 pm (UTC)I am allegiance-free as you put it but I'm gonna have fun watching Portugal, Spain and idk, maybe Czech, them being our neighbours and stuff. And maybe France to see if they selfdestruct as in WC.

I wasn't even aware they were playing, to be honest! What group are they in? I remember the days when they were one of the national sides everyone feared playing against, when Nedved was still playing... ~good times
And maybe France to see if they selfdestruct as in WC
I'd love to see that again, but sadly I don't think that will happen. Blanc is no Domenech, and from what I've been hearing the squad is looking pretty decent nowadays... But who knows, maybe we'll have another 'coup de théatre' from good old France. ;)

Date: 2012-05-15 04:43 pm (UTC)Germany. They play great exciting beautiful football, they have Mesut Ozil who is the most classy and graceful footballer in the world, (I wish Germany still had the black away kit, he looked so good), and of course we now have a German contingent at Arsenal, Per and Poldi, so I'll be rooting for them.
Portugal. I have such a soft spot for Cris, since following him at RM I see how amazing he really is, it makes me sad that he has to put up with so much hate, so I'll be rooting for him and Portugal.
France. We have a never-ending French connection at Arsenal, and France always provides the entertainment whether playing well or falling apart. Kos is also one of my favourite Gunners, so I'll be supporting him.
Honourable mention for Holland, who used to wow me when I was a kid, so I always keep an eye on them.
I can't wait for the Euros to start, I already feel like I'm going through football withdrawal.
