UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between the clubs on 27 April.

The proceedings have been launched on the basis of evidence provided by Real Madrid (video and statement of club and player). The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Sunday 15 May and the decision will be communicated to the club on Monday 16 May.

I'm just glad they finally decided to do something about it. What do you think the outcome will be?

Who's your second captain?
Serhio! :D

For me, I like to separate the player from the team itself.
Many were willing to agree that Biscuits was the problem not Barca...until recently. With you lot's manager saying "oh, it's the past and a mistake" and your VP now saying "racism happens", there is now a bad image on the club. They represent a lot more than a low-level starting midfielder. I was fine with only being pissed off at Biscuits, but now Barca is unfortunately making itself look foolish by being unwilling to handle this seriously.

I didn't follow any other sports team and in the US (I gather this opinion solely from the sports fans I know) we're not necessarily as attached to the "team/club" itself as a respectful organization, but rather a business.
As a hardcore gridiron football fan (Green Bay Packers) with a family that is hardcore into other American sports, I can assure you that Americans are more than willing to bleed for their teams and expect their teams to behave respectfully. I think we are just a lot more cynical because we are never surprised when shit happens, but the majority also expect players/coaches/owners to be held accountable for their stupidity (like Favre being punished for being a disgusting fuck).

I want an apology and punishment just as much as anyone else.
I don't think an apology means shit, tbh. At least as a Black person I know an apology from a racist would mean shit to me. Why apologize? He'd only be sorry for getting caught.

The second part was entirely an opinion (note i said i gathered that solely from my experience) since I do not know anyone in real life who is obsessed with an institution as much as people are involved with their club in football. I know people obsessed with a sport, players, the game, the "team", but I never hear "oh I love green bay because of their work with so and so charity and how they reached out to this cause and that". Again, this is simply my experience. I understand that it's possible, which I also mentioned above. I was never raised to be a hardcore fan of any team, and so I'm still getting into it.

I believe in my original reply, I also said that I do hope at least someone at Barcelona isnt stupid enough to keep denying this and I hope there is some kind of action and punishment along with a public apology (cause it cant hurt). It would also be nice for Busquets to gey involved with fixing his disgusting problem of being a racist. Of course Barcelona look foolish, I agree with that 100%
