UEFA opens disciplinary case against Busquets

 UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between the clubs on 27 April.

The proceedings have been launched on the basis of evidence provided by Real Madrid (video and statement of club and player). The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Sunday 15 May and the decision will be communicated to the club on Monday 16 May.

The video on the page is an excellent one that everyone should watch, especially those of you who think this is just something that Marcelo is a victim of. Europeans can be extremely intolerant. I agree that Sergio needs to go since Eto'o had problems with racism and they should be, as a club, intolerant of it. I hope that he either gets suspended or they choose to drop him. We don't need Biscuits.

I haven't actually come across anyone who think Marcelo is the only person subjected to this. Racism is sadly too prevelent in football for people not to know about other cases.

The fact that Eto'o and Dani Alves had to go through the same thing and Busquets thinks this is acceptable is one of the nasty details that makes me the most disgusted.

I really despise him so I hope they drop him from the team. I love Barcelona but they can't turn a blind eye to the suffering of their own players. I'm actually shocked that they throw bananas and shit onto the field and it's scary that the fans taunt players on their own damn team. WOW.

More needs to be done about fans being racist by ALL clubs frankly, off the top of my head I can think of fans from Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla who have been racist, and that's only in la liga. Nothing is going to change until there are proper sanctions, like play being stopped until the fans shut up.

I agree. I know fans in the US can be absolutely ridiculous but I would hope that no one would allow people to carry on or throw shit onto the field like they do in Europe. :( I love Europe but they're really in the dark ages when it comes to this kind of thing.

Espanyol as well, I think someone mentioned, was chanting racism slurs at Dani Alves at the Catalan derby (I'm not sure if it was the recent one or the first leg) Same with the Atleti supporters during the Madrid derby, Barca & RM fans during the two CL matches, etc. It's honestly really disgusting and depressing how this kind of thing is not only prevalent in Spanish football, but that it goes unpunished.
