UEFA opens disciplinary case against Busquets

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between the clubs on 27 April.

The proceedings have been launched on the basis of evidence provided by Real Madrid (video and statement of club and player). The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Sunday 15 May and the decision will be communicated to the club on Monday 16 May.

I'm just glad they finally decided to do something about it. What do you think the outcome will be?

In total contrast to UEFA and this entire incident, here's a demonstration of a positive and proactive response to racism, by the New York Red Bulls & Thierry Henry: Jason Brudereck: Racial remark to teen spurs soccer stars to action (http://readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=306859) (to sum, a kid in the youth leagues in PA was racially taunted during a match, someone told someone told Coundoul and Henry at NYRB, who invited the kid and his dad to come talk with Thierry and the NYRB and NE Revolution managers, who also called Dan Garber about the incident)

I'm glad this is happening, though I'm dubious about how much good it'll do and also, it's kind of amazing how much I have not stopped being viscerally angry in my innards about this whole incident since it happened. but i do take comfort in the enduring flawlessness of marcelito.

Busquets being in the secong leg still makes me rage, he'd better get suspended for at least 5 games.

Oh that's fantastic of the Red Bulls and Henry to do. At least SOMEBODY in football is reacting positively/proactively to this issue.

[identity profile] mardia.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with you on the visceral anger--right now I basically want to kick FC Barcelona in the face for letting things slide to this point. I'm glad that the situation's finally being addressed, I hope UEFA does SOMETHING (suspending Busquets for the CL final would be the bare minimum, I'd think) and I hope Marcelo gets some justice out of this.

i dont know if this is what he's referring to though it might be something else, we'll have to wait and see. I hope he doesn't play, i think opening the case is a good sign he'll get suspended

:D thanks for sharing this

"Just let them do that," Henry said to Bryan. "Just don't do anything, and then score and smile at them."

^ I Love this man!

took your time but I hope they do something about this and not bullshit.

mte. he should of never played the second leg. I am still angry by this.

hfskdj yes. I just -- I think about it and I have these uncharacteristic urges to violence. I'm not even sure why, exactly, this specific incident hit so hard for me. I mean, ultimately, I don't KNOW any of these people. Whereas I've seen people say unbelievable shit to friends of mine. I've had unbelievable shit said to me.

But I guess I -- and presumably my friends, though I can't speak for them -- could look at those one-on-one incidents and be like "these people are isolated morons in a world that is rapidly leaving them behind, and it is sadder to be them than to have to deal with them." which of course makes it easier to shrug off, although now I'm starting to question whether it was ever true.

But to see those attitudes not merely tolerated but perpetuated by an entity with Barcelona's global reach and influence is so saddening and infuriating that I just can't. haha, I keep trying to express this better and I'm just like, IT'S SHITTY AND UNFAIR AND WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!

http://www.europeword.com/blog/europe/racism-in-europe/

The video on the page is an excellent one that everyone should watch, especially those of you who think this is just something that Marcelo is a victim of. Europeans can be extremely intolerant. I agree that Sergio needs to go since Eto'o had problems with racism and they should be, as a club, intolerant of it. I hope that he either gets suspended or they choose to drop him. We don't need Biscuits.

about time uefa did something. hopefully it well end in a lengthy suspension and missing the final.

[identity profile] sashaj22.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
not surprised, tbh.

There are a handful of Barca supporters who are commenting with their disgust (look below) But I think most are embarrassed by his actions and the clubs follow up, yet don't want to comment here on _fb, which they think is as much ~anti-Barca as Real Madrid is ~anti-football.

And a few are still trying to defend Busquets, for whatever reason.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGEL PUFF!
Hoping something actually comes out of this.

Ozil kills me in this gif.

[identity profile] mardia.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that totally makes sense. I'm fortunate in that I haven't had THAT much (by most standards) abuse directed to my face, but it's always shocking to see an institution stand by and perpetuate this bullshit.

I'll be writing a post about this very topic pretty soon (also about Dalglish's appointment, which is joy-inducing instead of rage-inducing, thank God) but for now, seriously, football--how is this the best we can manage in 2011?

[identity profile] dld-ftw.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope so too. My guess is that Marcelo *couldn't* talk publicly about the incident, especially if they were logging a complaint. It may have been a legal issue. The club may have asked him to keep quiet until the case was pulled together.

[identity profile] theosakansun.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't say that's the impression I've gotten of most Barca fans. Many of them I've talked to have all been very lovely and have all condemned what Busquets' said.

[identity profile] penguinparity.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Were they really? Fffffff.

CRon's behavior is really hurting my opinion of him. First coming out in support of the Portugal gay marriage law, then adopting his kid, now this? How am I supposed to mindlessly hate him when he's turning out to be kind of classy? Noooooooo.

great timing by the uefa.
