Eto'o emulating Zidane

Eto'o uses, and loses, his head

Inter star faces lengthy ban after doing a Zidane

MILAN - Inter Milan's crisis intensified with a 2-1 defeat at Chievo where Samuel Eto'o committed a Zinedine Zidane-like headbutt that could result in a lengthy suspension.

In a moment of madness similar to France midfielder Zinedine Zidane's assault on Italian Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final, Eto'o headbutted Cesar in the chest after having been hit by the defender. Eto'o was not cautioned by the referee, who missed the incident, but Serie A is sure to look at video evidence and will almost certainly hand the Cameroonian a lengthy ban.

"What Eto'o did is not something good but he took a punch first and it was provocation. He lost a bit of control, that's clear, said under-fire Inter coach Rafa Benitez.

Eto'o scored Inter's consolation goal late on after Sergio Pellissier and Davide Moscardelli put Chievo two up. The loss left the champions nine points off top spot.

Wow. He jogged up all casual-like, and then BAM! Head to the solar-plexus. Both of them were in the wrong, though. Surprised the first guy didn't even get a red since the ref apparently didn't see Eto'o (who appeared to be on the lookout before he did it).

I'm more worried about the loss, injuries and performances rather than this :/

[identity profile] problematique.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
The injuries more than anything. Healthy players could overcome shit tactics.

Fucking disgraceful (and I said that about Zidane too, who is my angel). This retaliatory bullshit has to stop.

Eto'o looked around to make sure the ref wasn't looking his way before he did it, which, of course, is going to lead down a nasty road for him since its obvious he planned on doing it. The other dude is also to blame, but you do get a bit carried away on the pitch and you might end up holding someone, but hitting him, like he did, shold also give him concequenses and not only to Eto'o.

[identity profile] verses.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY, he PLANNED it. It wasn't like, punch, retaliatory punch in 5 seconds. It was fucking calculated in a way that the previous infraction wasn't. I'd give one and four match bans, respectively. I don't endorse provocation, but it's not an excuse for MALICE.

[identity profile] verses.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Also, Rafa is an asshole for minimizing it. I know coaches support their players, but acting like it was okay is fucked up. Why couldn't he just say "The entire situation was unfortunate and we hope it will be examined carefully" or something. Instead of saying it's no big thang~.

[identity profile] problematique.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Rafa has about a week to win a match or he's getting fired.
Seriously.

It isn't like your the only healthy player Inter has right now or anything.

mte

this was just what we needed right now :/

[identity profile] raichelisic.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
But I agree they were both wrong. We're even more screwed up without Eto'o though. :(

[identity profile] tralala.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
How did the ref miss that?

It's not even a sudden turn around and headbutt him in the spur of the moment thing like Zizou, he ran straight towards Cesar and then put his head down. Even if Cesar wasn't playing fair, a headbutt to the solar plexus isn't the answer.

[identity profile] verses.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
How did EVERY OFFICIAL miss it? I'm so pissed off, especially since he scored later in the game when he SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THERE. Much more calculated than Zizou, IMO. Not that I condone that either, obviously, but if a red card offense is an excuse for a malicious attack, I fear for the sport, because nasty fouls happen all the fucking time.

I haven't followed Inter's few previous games and I somehow thought we had Julio Cesar back and when I read this news yesterday I thought Eto'o headbutted JC! omg

But srsly wtf man NO. Not cool this is the last thing we need to deal right now.

[identity profile] raichelisic.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
LOL now I'd be pissed off if that happened ;)

Julione's still injured :(

[identity profile] anabelx.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
wtf is eto'o thinking? that was fucking dumb, not to mention deliberate and uncalled for, even if cesar had provoked him.

use your brains and think about the repercussions, think about how this will affect your team who's basically been hit with the worst injury crisis i have seen in a long time.

[identity profile] asdfg.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Dammit Eto'o! Inter's not in a good place to begin with and now you went a head and did that?

What a shame :/

[identity profile] irradiant.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's one of those things where you feel this strong compulsion to do it but as soon as its done you regret it. He looks sort of ashamed/embarrassed afterward. It's a damn shame he did it.

[identity profile] verses.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
He checked to see if the ref was looking, though, it wasn't instinctive

Disgraceful. Disgusting.

[identity profile] congelata.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Etoo'o was provoked before. But that is NO excuse for such disgusting behavior.
Not to mention the red card he NEVER RECEIVED.

I have not read anything yet about a potential match-ban.

[identity profile] meliadoul.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Inter lost again?! O_o

Head butting someone on the pitch is so stupid. As if we aren't going to see that!

[identity profile] dreamiigd.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
oh wow, don't agree with what he did but i still love you eto'o :)

[identity profile] adorerdollylux.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
for me, the difference between what he did and what zidane did is that it's entirely out of character for zidane, and for eto'o, to me, it really wasn't. and he planned that shit out WHAT THE FUCK. it's just disturbing, really.

i may be a bit biased considering that 1) i'm a rossoneri fan and 2) really don't like samuel eto'o.

[identity profile] paarycia.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
it's entirely out of character for zidane
Really? That headbutt was definitely not the 1st violent, shameful act Zidane did on the field.

[identity profile] arooj.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Not something you would expect from Eto'o though people said that about Zidane too and his moment of madness was definately a shocker. I can't believe the referee failed to see that and hopefully he'll be punished for this act as its just not cool, provocation or not.
