Winter Transfer Deadline Day!

So today (February 2) is the day that winter transfer window closes. And let's face it, summers transfers are way more fun and worrying.

But anyway, what are your thoughts about this window? Has your club signed someone useful (or useless)? Have they missed out on any special player that you had your eye on? Any news/hopes/dreams about summer transfers? And while we're on the subject, what were the best transfers made by your club? Any shocking ones? Ones that made you weep or cheer or laugh?

There are tissues for tears and champagne for celebration available (silly, I know.)

Something worth reading (and I agree):

How much does the January transfer deadline day matter?

To keep track of things:

The Telegraph's live thread for deadline day.

The Independent's live thread.

The Guardian's live thread.

The BBC's live thread.

Also, if you're bored, let's make this a regular FFA.

well as a player, money talks more than sports. As [livejournal.com profile] the4thjuliek said sometime last week, Bale was an Arsenal fan growing up, signed for Spurs, moved to Real and is a gooner again lol.

though who knows he might still be a fan of Messi. I like Messi most of the time. Heck, even Crispy's son is a fan of Messi XD

Heh, that explains the body armour. Per actually got injured in the above photo, and they weren't even trying.

Yeah, if you want the ball back before your "turn" you've got to "Stoke it" or be Sneaky McPete and catch it. XD But usually it doesn't result in major injury. ;-P

I didn't watch the game, so I'd have to do some checking on what happened. All I know is my parents weren't thrilled (my dad wanted Seattle to win and apparently my mom has severe haterade for Tom & Gisele XD )

Hmm, maybe the coach was blaming himself for calling the pass that led to the interception? Apparently Seattle was on the 1 yard line when that happened and they should've just tried running that sucker in. I don't know which down they were on, but they certainly weren't on the 4th down (the last try a team gets before they have to hand over the ball to the other team). If they scored, Seattle would've most likely won. Also, they've could've gone for a field goal (3 pts) if New England kept them from scoring a touchdown.

all I saw of the Superbowl was the OTT halftime performance

and I had no idea what was going on with it anyway because I had Roxy Music playing on YouTube

it sounded less-than-exciting though

Yes, interceptionception, haha. Which...doesn't really happen that much (but would be pretty funny).

I think interceptionfumbleception might happen more, but usually the team that intercepts has a death grip on the ball afterwards since that's a usually a pretty big blow to the other team. It's like....de Gea doing his annoying goalstopping thing all over the place. ;-D

'world champion' - but it's mainly only americans who play american football no? at least at a professional level...

Re: OT.

[identity profile] blackjedii.livejournal.com 2015-02-02 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
basically the main premise of american football is everyone gets a chance to run the ball to the other end and you have to not get smacked into on the way over there
and commercial breaks

it is not american football without paid commercial advertisements

what i've gathered from american friends and twitter, superbowl's more about the ads than the actual football... but seriously, how many ads are they able to put into a game..? and how long are these breaks to be able to have such a big deal made out of them?

Seriously?!?

There's egocentric, and then there's American egocentric...

I don't know the NFL coaches well enough to know their temperment and all the crap they pull (I think New England's coach is being a bit Mou-like right now with the "deflategate" thing from the playoffs), but if the US can survive all the pissy football and baskeball coaches, I think they could probably deal with Mou. What he's doing right now would be like Christmas for the major media here, I think. Klinsi's stuff wasn't/isn't really noticed except for certain groups, haha.

I have no clue how to embed gfycats so let's try this:

U DID IT!!! I love how there's always a cameraman on the coat situation. It has become the second past time at Arsenal games.

Canada has the CFL, but they don't play the NFL officially. It's not *exactly* the same...I think their field might be a tad shorter, but otherwise it's pretty similar, I think.

Ha, there are actually a few Canadian teams in major league baseball...so World Series of North America! ;-P

(Canadians would be pretty annoyed if you called them American.)

Mou would have to *really* save up the nonsense if he wants to break through to Good Morning America or the Today Show. ;-P Like throw an epic fit at the World Cup...I think that might be the only thing that might do it.

American football is weird: a bunch of guys chasing each other across a field like lunatics and stopping every five seconds. And it's really annoying when you're talking about football and some Americans are like "u mean soccer, right?". No, I mean football! Get the terms right!

We actually played American football once in my school, and no one was able to understand what we were supposed to do. And even though we played without tackling, I still managed to get run over by this one guy who was at least twenty centimeters taller and thirty kilos heavier than me. Not fun at all.
