Paulo Bento, the Portuguese National Team manager, announced this afternoon in Óbidos, Portugal the list of the 23 players who will travel to Ukraine and Poland this summer and play in Euro 2012.

We're in Group B, arguably the most difficult one and already called the 'group of death', along with Netherlands, Denmark and Germany.

The first game will be against Germany on June 9.
The second game will be against Denmark on June 13.
The third game will be against the Netherlands on June 17.

And finally, Portugal's main and alternative kits, respectively...

Alright, just a few final things...
I decided to make this post in order to see if I could sway some of you - at least those who are still allegiance-free or whose respective National Teams will not be playing this summer (sorry about that by the way, if thats the case...) - into supporting Portugal.
Now, I know we're not exactly Spain looks-wise, but we're still pretty damn cool and hopefully this will finally be our year (ok, now I'm sounding just like the Liverpool supporter that I am...).
Anyway, hope at least some of you enjoy the post!
(Oh, and yeah, we have really looooooong names, I know...)

Spain is actually my second choice, for the simple fact that I'm part Spanish. They're also our one and only neighbour country, so... yeah. So for more than one reason I'm really glad we didn't end up in a group with them!

I honestly don't know what's happened with Eduardo... He was absolutely unbelievable in the World Cup, and now... I don't know if that Portugal/Spain goal just shattered his confidence or what, but it's very sad. That said, I'm grateful that Rui has stepped up and come into his own, and feel pretty comfortable with things on that end of the field. (Now if only we could cement a #1 center forward...)

Just dropping by to tell you what a lovely post this is. It must've taken for ever. Of course as a Germany fan, it's a moot point for me, :p but I think Portugal wins for most interesting names. Custodio, Nelson, Helder, and Kepler in particular!

Germany is a great team, congrats for being a fan, haha! I actually tip them to win the Euro, to be honest... They were just so consistently strong during the WC, and since I have my doubts about Spain retaining their form... We'll see.

None of those names are very common in Portugal though; Nélson and Hélder a bit more so, but Custódio is an old and currently rare name, and Képler simply doesn't exist in Portugal, only in Brazil (now they really are the kings of interesting names!).

Haha, real men? What do you mean, you think the Spanish ones aren't real? Truth be told, some of them are so god damn perfect one does wonder... The metrosexual sadly doesn't really do it for me though, not that way. ;)

Raul is lovely. As a Porto fan I've been following him for quite some time, and as a Liverpool supporter I was gutted when he left. He's a great player and a GREAT man.

Germany is honestly the best team in Europe. I'm very unhappy to be in a group with them because... well, for obvious competitive reasons, but also because it means I can't root for them until the knock-out stages. Although, it's mathematically possible for Germany to top the group and Portugal to place second, so!

Me neither. He completely self-destructed after the World Cup, it was really sad to watch. I also think he expected being transferred to a more competitive club than Genoa after the WC... And though I didn't really follow his Genoa career, I believe he had some internal problems there that probably didn't help matters.

Yeah, it's the striker part that worries me as well... Most of them are just so inconsistent!
