The Manchester United footballer, Wayne Rooney, is going bald at the young age of 25. So he has had a hair transplant and the estimated cost has varied from £7000 (around Shs28m) through to a whopping £30,000 (around Shs120m)!

To get a take on Rooney’s decision on the Ugandan streets, I interviewed Timothy, a 28-year-old shop assistant in a Kampala trading centre. He said, “If I went bald at 28, I would feel shame. I could not get a girl of my choice and age….23 to 25 years old. She may even think I am 40 years and above. There is a local doctor I could go to and get herbal medicines to cure the baldness. But they would charge you much. If I was rich I would go there.”

Timothy therefore had no doubt that if he had Rooney’s wealth, he would have a hugely expensive hair transplant.
If Roving Eye was in Rooney’s position, would he have a hair transplant? I would like to say the answer would be “no”. That I would just accept that I was going bald and continue with my life.

But I can’t be at all sure about this. And the reason is because of my reaction when my hair started to turn from brown to white in the early 1990s. Did I “just accept” the change in my hair colour and “continue with my life”? No, I did not! I bought a product called Grecian 2000 which was supposed to restore my greying hair to its original colour – no doubt I thought this would make me look younger.

It was only when a good friend told me that my hair looked very odd and was turning “a funny kind of yellow” that I threw away the Grecian 2000 and finally said goodbye to my brown hair.

So if I was tempted to restore my hair colour almost two decades ago at 40 with a full head of hair, then I can certainly appreciate the possibility that I might be in the hair transplant clinic at 25 years of age if I had Rooney’s money and high football profile.

Thus in answer to the question, “If you were Wayne Rooney, would you have had a hair transplant?” Timothy voted “Yes” and Kevin voted “Possibly” – but I always like a fence to sit on!

either do it before people will notice, or just shave the rest off and do the Mr Clean.

I love the three person poll in this article, I feel I know what the Ugandan people feel about Rooney's hair now.

I would get a beyonce style wig.

He's 25, if he doesn't want to be forced to shave his hair off because he's balding, why shouldn't he get a hair transplant? I can't imagine any guy enjoys the idea of going bald, especially while he's still so young so if he feels better having a hair transplant then so be it.

It's his choice to do it, so kudos to him for doing it and being honest about it without trying to hide it.

I love that show! Every time I hear someone say they're self-conscious I immediately think NEVER NUDE!.

But yeah, hair transplants are scary.

It's his body. And he clearly has the money to do it. I don't like when people make fun of someone's appearance.

Honestly I think if the technology is good enough to make it look real, a lot of people would go for it if they can afford it.

i love that he had no problem with telling the world on twitter about it like it's no big deal (and it's not but many would die before admitting it)

eh, he has $$$ and obviously wants to have hair again lol, go on with ya bad self shrek (and Iker for the love of god, take note)

I love all the jokes about this, but if anyone seriously cares that Rooney is getting a transplant...well, there just isn't enough side-eye in the world.

The Ugandan streets, lmao really? But tbh, I think it's awesome that he was so open about it and I think it's a good decision. I know if I was going bald, I would get a transplant. idk I'm really attached to my hair.

why not? if he has the money, didn't feel comfortable with his current situation, and is able to do something about it, sure.
i like it how open he is about it too.

that article made me laugh like crazy, i just thought it was hilarious that he only asked 2 people

and i don't see anything wrong with getting a hair transplant, i mean if i were going bald at 25 and had the money, i would probably do it too. i'm just curious as to what it looks like

guys don't have much to experiment around with in terms of beauty compared to girls, there's not much they can do--nice shirts and pants, clean cut hair, groomed face, good shoes. They can't really use hair accessories, makeup, heels, dresses, or whatever to beautify themselves. As they get older it's also harder to get away with wearing trends/fads without looking like he's stuck in highschool, whereas girls can get away with a lot of stuff.
I can see how hair would be a big deal for a 25 year old guy. Kudos to him.

He should've rocked the baldness. It would've become iconic, forever associated with him.
