UEFA opens disciplinary case against Busquets

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between the clubs on 27 April.

The proceedings have been launched on the basis of evidence provided by Real Madrid (video and statement of club and player). The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Sunday 15 May and the decision will be communicated to the club on Monday 16 May.

I'm just glad they finally decided to do something about it. What do you think the outcome will be?

you've probably already seen this, but there's absolutely heartbreaking footage from the madrid derby, during which the "monkey" chants were so loud that the cameras picked them up. like, I could hear them on my shitty stream even. the whole thing is stunning in its shittiness, and at around :40, cris -- who was also getting death chants -- signals to Marcelo not to let anyone see that he's upset. and it just. it's so painful and such an indictment of the state of the sport, particularly in spain.

after this game, atletico keeper David De Gea -- another person I really wanted to like! -- totally shrugged it off. i think he said something along the lines of "all the other kids are doing it." it was painful then, and in combination with this incident it's goddamn horrible.

I'd heard about this incident, but I'd never watched the video. Oh my God, it's even uglier than I'd thought. Just--I cannot. I genuinely cannot.

Also, de Gea can fuck right off. I'm sorry, but the defense of "it's how things are in Spain" DOES NOT FLY. JFC.
