UEFA opens disciplinary case against Busquets

 UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between the clubs on 27 April.

The proceedings have been launched on the basis of evidence provided by Real Madrid (video and statement of club and player). The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Sunday 15 May and the decision will be communicated to the club on Monday 16 May.

As for Uefa, do the right thing for once and prove you're not a joke of an institution.

If I was to guess at the outcome I'd say Busquets will be fined and may well be suspended from the final although I wouldn't bet on it. I'm curious to know how Barcelona will respond.

About damn time, what took so long?

If UEFA don't ban him for a few games at least then he will be getting off very lightly. Considering they're supposed to be cracking down on racism, when he's found guilty (because if he isn't then there is seriously something wrong) they should be making an example out of him to show that racism is not ok, ever.

Also, it's heartbreaking to see Marcelo especially is still getting victimized by disgusting comments from fans. Even though you can see his team mates work really hard to try and make it a joke so he doesn't get upset about it, it's got to hurt to hear people saying such things in the first place.

also, maybe this will finally put to death the bullshit and racist-enabling meme that marcelo has acted wrong by not talking about this publicly. by saying that, it creates a situation in which a player of color cannot win: either he goes through the proper channels and his club opens an investigation while not muddying the issue with public pronouncements, in which case (as we've seen) people doubt whether it actually happened; or, if he does say anything, he's accused of playing the race card or trying to gain an advantage after a bitterly contested match. (which people have said anyway, just about the club and not the player.)
