UEFA opens disciplinary case against Busquets

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between the clubs on 27 April.

The proceedings have been launched on the basis of evidence provided by Real Madrid (video and statement of club and player). The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Sunday 15 May and the decision will be communicated to the club on Monday 16 May.

I'm just glad they finally decided to do something about it. What do you think the outcome will be?

UEFA have woken up! They would have set a worrying precedent if they let this slide. The outcome of this will be more telling tho.

oh man, cris always kills me -- at the derby, when he gestured at marcelo not to react at the monkey chants, and then when he made a joke of the racist "marcelo has lice" chants at sevilla by pretending to check marcelo's fro for nits. legitimately it makes me tear up.

i hope the two of them (and the rest of the boys) tear it up tonight.

Finally they're doing something about it.

And oh, it's Marcelo's birthday? Happy birthday Marcelo!! ^^

I will forever see UEFA as a massive joke, but for once: well done.

And in the words of that one GOL TV commentator: happy birthday, Marthell-oh :3

Took them long enough.

And happy birthday Marcelo! Maybe that's why UEFA waited so long, because they wanted to surprise Marcelo on his b'day :P

About fucking time. This entire situation is so depressing :(

LMAO!

I'm glad UEFA is finally going to do something about this.

Also it feels like I'm the only one here in this post who's not a RM fan.

Thank God. If Barcelona won't do anything, then hopefully UEFA can shame them into finally reacting. (Still shaking my head that it's taken this long.)

I'm glad for Marcelo (and Real Madrid, and indeed, for football in general) that this is finally being addressed, but I'm still so pissed off that it not only happened in the first place, but that it's taken so long to address it.

Barcelona has fucked up beyond words in how they've handled this. Let's see if somebody can finally fix that.

[identity profile] bunnycupcakes.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU.

FUCKING THIS

I'm sick of comments that state "Oh well if I was in so-and-so's case I would've done xyz", well good for fucking you, but a player isn't wrong when he reacts in a particular way given clubs and UEFA's (for now, we'll see what happens) penchants for doing fuck all when it matters.

I'm interested in seeing if Barcelona takes any action/acknowledges the incident, since here's some sort of UEFA action which the club was purportedly waiting for.

Good, now the people bitching about "Well, Marcelo didn't say anything or file a complaint, so it's clearly b.s.!" can shut the fuck up.

iawtc, victim-blaming is the fucking worst.

[identity profile] pinkprincessnat.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
About time! I hope this actually achieves something.

[identity profile] masterofhentzau.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Urgh I know, I'm so glad that Cris is always there for Marcelo but he shouldn't have to be doing it in the first place.

[identity profile] happybunny-v.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
apparently rosell said that the club was going to address something after Wembley

[identity profile] narusaku4vr.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
About time UEFA. There's acutally hope for you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARCELO !!!

[identity profile] happybunny-v.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
thank god, the thought that it was going to be sweep under the rug had me depressed

[identity profile] xevochic.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
FUCK YES

[identity profile] emuerz.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it would happen AFTER Wembley... In a game he'll probably play. Smh.

OH THANK GOD! IT'S ABOUT TIME!!

[identity profile] xevochic.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Perfect day to announce this. But I will never not be disappointed that this didn't happen sooner and that that bastard was allowed to play the second leg.

I can't even speculate about what will happen to Sergio, because it will only reveal just how pessimistic UEFA makes me.

There's so much truth in that quote.
