Myspace Comments

POST RULZ:
1. The name of one of your favorite players.
2. Why are they a favorite of yours?
3. Your favorite picture/moment of them on the field.
4. Your favorite picture/moment of them off the field.
5. Favorite random fact!

I'll go first:

1. Sergio Ramos (duh)

2. How passionately he plays every game, how charitable he is, the fashion lols, how he is always smiling, how much he cares for his family and friends.

3. While he isn't actually playing in this photo it's my favorite on field one because its the culmination of all the work he has done out there; and he uses this moment to comfort a friend. perfectio.

4. How was this not going to be it? Do I even need to explain why?

5. He wants to retire back in Sevilla (the city, not the club!), d'aww.

Have at it and feel free to picspam your favorite too!

Mods: Delete if irrelevant or tag as needed, thanks <3

I would have so much resentment towards Spain if this ever happens. I don't want that. I just started liking Spain (literally, in the last 2 weeks). I never disliked them, I was just sort of neutral.

The French NT is pretty much my favorite (with the USA, gotta have national pride!) and I'd be so butthurt if the French legend's son played for another country. I don't even. UGGg. This better not happen.

I'm the rar non Spain/Germany fan girl. I'm a total France/Algeria fangirl because of my roots.
If he does go through with Spain, I will pretend he doesn't exist and isn't related to his father. I will pray that Luca doesn't take the same path.

This. I like the Spanish team fine, but they aren't anywhere near my top favorite teams. I rooted for The Netherlands this WC final. I'm part of the minority on ontd_fb.

But in Europe, because I'm half French half Italian, those are my European teams. Can you imagine the mixed emotions of the 06 WC for me? I didn't know if I should drive around my hood screaming Forza Italia!!! or go in the corner and cry for 10 hours.

Things like this make me SO HAPPY to be Filipino and thus eternally neutral (because we will NEVER qualify for the World Cup). I will never have to deal with *truly* mixed emotions about my teams. I chose Germany due to their playing style and wonderful classy/sexy/badass players, but it will never culturally be home, so as far as it goes I'll be able to root for the US without issues most of the time. If somehow in my lifetime I see a Philippines vs. USA game I will scream and cry FOREVER.

For me if it's anyone versus USA, I root for the USA. My national identity > my heritage.

That being said, USA vs. France or Italy would be so painful for me. But USA always.

This WC Final was easier with me to deal with. I chose The Netherlands based on I love the color orange, I love Sneijder, and I have a lot of Dutch relatives who would be happy to see them win. But I wasn't devastated they lost. Because I like Spain too. I was really invested in the USMNT, Mexico and Germany once France and Italy were out. Once Germany was out I really didn't care. I just watched because I love football and chose a side to root for to make it interesting.

See, it's rough for me because I am so very proud of my heritage. I cheer for us in boxing, in Olympics basketball, in anything. I attend Philippine Independence Day Parade in NYC like clockwork. My sampaguita (Philippine national flower, like jasmine but smells EVEN BETTER) shirt is my favorite thing in the universe. I want to do all the Philippine traditions at my wedding - the money dances, the roasted lechon. It's part of what distinguishes me as an American and as a person and I love it so. My children will know they are Filipino as well as American (and Cuban as well, to what degree that still exists by the time they are born).

At the same time, America gave my family opportunities it never could have gotten. I'm going to graduate school with money my mother only could have earned here. Heck, *she* went for her Master's degree while working here full time. America constantly reminds me that all things are possible, that all kinds of people are possible, that it's possible for a country to embrace everyone culturally. Hell, it's telling that you are French-Italian-American and I'm Filipino-American and my fiance's Cuban-American and my academic advisor's Turkish-American and we can have this conversation. And that's really not possible anywhere else, I think.

So I'm as Filipino as I am American. I love both places to bits, and want nothing more than success for the both of them, and it really would rip my heart to pieces to watch them compete against each other in anything seriously. (Except maybe if Floyd Mayweather gets off his ass and finally challenges Manny Pacquiao to a boxing match. At that point ALL FUCKING BETS ARE OFF and Pac-Man will deliver the beat-down. XD)

In contrast, my love for the Germans is really just for how the Germans play fußball - elegant, powerful, controlled. And of course I find them all intensely attractive. And yes, my heart would break a little to watch a US-Germany game, just because it'd make my favorite players cry no matter what happens. But I don't think I'd be nearly as crushed about it, nearly as hyperventilative.

*coughs*

This is a good story.

And I root for Pac Man over anyone because I bet on boxing matches and when it's Pac Man I win. ;)

I have no national identity in boxing. I don't even watch the fights. I just put $20 on Pacquiao if someone is willing to gamble with me.

^^

XP It's a good strategy, considering how ungodly badass the man is. There is very little he can do wrong. (Except when he sings. OH GOD WHY.)
