Kroenke closes on takeover
Gunners set to come under American control

Stan Kroenke has confirmed he has increased his stake in Arsenal to 62.89% as he closes in on a takeover of the club.

The American, who already owned 29.9% of the club, has increased his shareholding after agreeing deals to buy shares owned by Danny Fiszman and Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith.

The deal sees Kroenke acquire the 16.1% owned by Fiszman and Lady Bracewell-Smith's 15.9% stake to take his holding to 62.89%.

As a result of passing the 62% threshold under stock market rules, a takeover bid would be triggered and he has agreed terms for the purchase of the remaining stock which values the club at £731million.

Terms have also been agreed for Kroenke Sports Enterprises to buy up the remaining share capital at a cost of £11,750 a share.

Kroenke said in a statement to the Stock Exchange: "We are excited about the opportunity to increase our involvement with and commitment to Arsenal.

"Arsenal is a fantastic club with a special history and tradition and a wonderful manager in Arsene Wenger.

"We intend to build on this rich heritage and take the club to new success. I am delighted that Peter Hill-Wood has agreed to support us by continuing as chairman.

"We especially wish to acknowledge and thank the board, Danny Fiszman and the Fiszman family as well as Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith and her family for the confidence they have had in me over the past years and in allowing us to move forward in this more prominent role."

Kroenke first took a stake in Arsenal in 2007 when he purchased the 9.9 per cent which was owned by Granada.

Kroenke has major interests in sporting teams throughout America as his company also owns the Denver Nuggets of the NBA, Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer and the NFL's St. Louis Rams.

If Kroenke takes charge of Arsenal, they would be the fifth Premier League club to become American-owned, along with Manchester United, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Liverpool.

sky sauce
cannon statement
tl;dr deal stuff

Fun Fact: Kroenke's wife is the daughter of one of the Wal-Mart founders.

Report- Lionel Messi's brother and mother caught in terrifying gun attack
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

At least eight bullets hit the house of Lionel Messi's brother Matias in a Friday night attack, although no-one was injured in the shooting...

The brother and mother of Barcelona star Lionel Messi narrowly avoided tragedy over the weekend, when Matias Messi's Rosario house was attacked by unidentified gunmen.

La Capital reports that the attack occurred at the house where Matias currently lives, at the same time as his mother was visiting from her own dwelling some 100 metres down the street.

Two men on a motorbike pulled up outside the house on the south side of Rosario and opened fire with a 9mm pistol, leaving at least eight bullet holes in the walls and gates as well as several in neighbouring properties, according to witnesses in the area.

Despite the hail of gunfire nobody inside the house was hurt, and the assailants took off immediately afterwards. The motives for the shooting are unknown, and Messi's neighbours were quick to defend him and his family against any suggestion of unsavoury dealings.

"The kids are all lovely, the sister-in law, the children, Messi's brother, all lovely people," one lady who didn't wish to be identified asserted to the newspaper. Another specified that the attack occurred around 11pm on Friday evening and her shop was hit three times, but nothing else happened.

So far there has been no comment on the situation from the Messi family or Rosario police.

EDIT: "Guardiola explica que Estiarte ha hablado con el padre de Messi, que les ha explicado que el día del tiroteo el hermano no estaba: translation: Messi Family was not home at the time of the incident.

Glad everyone is sage and nobody got hurt. I just don't get why anyone would harm the holy family?

Ok, so the idea of a census of the comm has been bouncing around my head for a while, and after enough people have okayed it saying "this isn't too creepy don't worry" I went ahead and did the poll. I would've put it as one entry but apparently there is a limit and I reached it :X

I made the responses so only I'll see them so hopefully you won't feel too ~exposed~ answering it. And of course you can skip whichever ones you want. If you need any clarification ask in the other post.

Hopefully that wasn't too arduous for you :) Once the poll closes I'll get cracking on the graphs

In the Blackpool vs Arsenal match yesterday, Lehmann was the goalkeeper and no reserve goalkeeper was named on the bench. Had he been sent off for his foul on DJ Campbell, it was said (I heard on the grapevine that is twitter) that Van Persie would have bunged on the goalie’s shirt and gone in goal for him (it’s currently joked in the GU Football Weekly podcast who else in the squad would have had the height to do so, Fernando Duarte asking “Nasri on Fabregas’ shoulders?!” lol)

So inspired by that, I thought we should all do a collective pitch of memories of outfield players in goal. The most prominent memory I have is Reading vs Chelsea when those evil ****s injured both Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini, and JT heroically went in goal and saw us through to a 1-0 win.

(Check the re-jiggling out... Drogba playing at CB (which tbf he'd excel at.)

I also remember Phil Jagielka pretty much *excelling* as an emergency goalie, especially in Sheffield Utd vs Arsenal when he made a cracking save from Van Persie to secure Sheffield Utd a 1-0 win. He really can play in practically every position, amazing man!

How about you, bbs? Feel free to spam pics of your team's players goofing around in goal (like the above one of Ash). Also, in the event of your first choice and second choice goalies both getting injured, which outfield player would you nominate to go in goal?
