Outfield Players in Goal.

In the Blackpool vs Arsenal match yesterday, Lehmann was the goalkeeper and no reserve goalkeeper was named on the bench. Had he been sent off for his foul on DJ Campbell, it was said (I heard on the grapevine that is twitter) that Van Persie would have bunged on the goalie’s shirt and gone in goal for him (it’s currently joked in the GU Football Weekly podcast who else in the squad would have had the height to do so, Fernando Duarte asking “Nasri on Fabregas’ shoulders?!” lol)

So inspired by that, I thought we should all do a collective pitch of memories of outfield players in goal. The most prominent memory I have is Reading vs Chelsea when those evil ****s injured both Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini, and JT heroically went in goal and saw us through to a 1-0 win.

(Check the re-jiggling out... Drogba playing at CB (which tbf he'd excel at.)
 
I also remember Phil Jagielka pretty much *excelling* as an emergency goalie, especially in Sheffield Utd vs Arsenal when he made a cracking save from Van Persie to secure Sheffield Utd a 1-0 win. He really can play in practically every position, amazing man!

How about you, bbs? Feel free to spam pics of your team's players goofing around in goal (like the above one of Ash). Also, in the event of your first choice and second choice goalies both getting injured, which outfield player would you nominate to go in goal?

This makes me think of the one World Cup DFB (German NT) video where Marko Marin was in goal completely randomly and somehow successfully did something some of the best keepers in the tournament could not: block a Thomas Müller shot. Hilariously, Thomas was the one wearing keeper gloves, Marko jumps in celebration and runs away, and then Thomas throws his gloves and yells at the camera.

Anyone have video/gifs of that moment? I'd look myself but I really shouldn't even be on the internet right now >.> *eyes stack of quizzes to grade*

Absolutely. Petr Cech is an amazingly *good* person for forgiving Hunt, but personally I cannot, even if I try really hard to, forgive him. During Chelsea vs Wolves when Ashley Cole and Bran were ~all up in Hunt's face~, I just know they were doing it out of overprotectiveness for Pete. I ♥ Chels. =)

Basically, the match had barely started and Hunt brought Cech down. Some say it was by accident, and he apologised profusely, but I still (four and a half years on almost to the day) *know* that he did in on purpose. That's the kind of player he is, dirty c*nt. Cech was stretchered off. And then when the game was drawing to a close and Reading realised they couldn't get a result through fair means, Sonko fouled Cudicini too.

I will never stop being bitter about it.

My team is Hannover 96 and after our keeper got send off after causing a penalty, midfielder Jan Rosenthal was the emergency goalkeeper for the rest of the game and saved the penalty:

It was a very important derby and our goalkeeper was sent off. So our striker was our goalkeeper for like 10 mins. And he did amazing!!! We won this match 4-3 and it was an away game.

Oooh, I have one!

In the Columbus Crew game I was at this season against the Philadelphia Union (not to brag, but my tickets were courtesy of Robbie Rogers...yup.) Will Hesmer aka my god collided with a Union player ~80 minutes in and had to be taken off due to his shoulder injury. Since we had already made all three subs, being so late in the game, hero Eddie Gaven donned the goalkeeper jersey and while he did let in one goal, he made some pretty good saves too. It was amazing. :D

Kind of opposite of what the post is about lol but I remember Bastian Schweinsteiger listing Michael Rensing in his dream team as an outfield player.

"My left-back, believe it or not, would be Michael Rensing. Although he is an excellent goalkeeper and number two at Bayern to Oliver Kahn, he is also a very good outfield player. When we have old versus young games in training at Bayern, it is great fun playing with him."

Also during a preseason Bayern game due to post World Cup absences our third choice 'keeper was played as an outfield player - as was one of our coaches! You just can't get the staff these days!
