Arne Friedrich: "I want to reach the top with VfL"

It was his start with the 'Wolves': On Monday morning, German international Arne Friedrich trained with the team for the first time since returning from his post-World Cup holiday, and he was greeted enthusiastically by the VfL fans. After the session, the highly motivated 31 year old stated: "After a tough year in Berlin, I was able to really free my head at the World Cup. I want to really reach for the top again with VfL."

"I will do my best for the club – both on and off the pitch," explained the German international. And all the VfL fans can really look forward to Arne Friedrich, whose targets are ambitious. He considers it important that the club "were able to hold on to players like Edin Dzeko. The team is strong, I see a lot of potential here," said Friedrich.

Aside from his sporting value, VfL manager Dieter Hoeneß also put the defenders personal qualities to the forefront: "We hope that Arne can bring us both his sporting qualities as well as his character," commented VfL managed Dieter Hoeneß on the player’s calibre in all areas. Speaking of Wolfsburg – the German international has also answered his accommodation question. Despite being in close proximity to his long-term home in Berlin, he will take a place in Wolfsburg: "I’m still living in a hotel at the moment but I have found an apartment very close to the stadium," said Friedrich.

Ancelotti: Benayoun smarter player than Cole

Carlo Ancelotti has criticised Chelsea outcast Joe Cole's tactical nous, saying new signing Yossi Benayoun is a superior option because unlike Cole, Benayoun "understands what I tell him".

Cole has signed for Liverpool after being released by Chelsea while Benayoun, a similar player in terms of position, went the other way in a move worth £5.5 million.

Ancelotti is hoping to make more moves in the transfer market before the transfer window closes on August 31, but having had some time to work with Benayoun on the training pitch he is confident he has improved his squad with the swap of attacking midfielders.

"Joe Cole is quicker than Benayoun but Yossi is better tactically. He understands what I tell him," Ancelotti said in quotes in the Sun. "Yossi is a very intelligent player. He knows everything about the game. Cole and Benayoun are different players and everyone has their own opinion, but we are happy to have Yossi here at Chelsea."

The new away kit for 2010/11 combines club history with new age technology - as every shirt will be made entirely from recycled polyester, from up to eight plastic water bottles, as part of Nike’s ‘Considered Design’ programme.

The club’s away shirt this season will be white with a black and red trim – with a bold chevron print on the sleeves. Aon, the new shirt sponsor, features on the front of the shirt whilst inside the shirt, on the back of the club crest, is the club's mantra “Believe”. The message sits right next to the heart while the symbolic Red Devil sits on the sleeve of the shirt and the shorts to add the finishing touches to the kit.

The new away strip has been engineered to give players a greater competitive advantage than ever before, keeping players drier and more comfortable, allowing them to maintain their optimum body temperature and perform at their peak on the pitch.

You can pre-order it now but it will officially go on sale from Sept 23th.

Hey everyone, this is for everyone going to the RM game at the Rose Bowl in LA!!:
I know someone posted something similar below me, but I have something a little more specific and longer lasting in mind, so hopefully this works for everyone.

Where: Rose Bowl Stadium, parking lot 2

When: Saturday, August 7th, from 3:30 pm until whenever

What: Tailgate!! (no, I will not bring a grill)

So here's the deal, for those of you unfamiliar with the term 'tailgate'...it's basically a parking lot pre-game party.  Pretty much consists of various alcoholic substances, generally unhealthy snacks (as long as it comes pre-made or in a bag), socializing, playing music from the parked car with the doors open, and sometimes dancing/flailing/jumping around (usually this comes after the alcohol, but can be before)

My friend (sanakas_lay) and I will arrive as early as possible to secure a parking space, hopefully by 2:30 but no later than 3:30...this usually works best if we have around 4+ cars from our party in the spots next to, and across from our space to reserve that space for us, so if you can get there early, that's awesome.  If you get there later, no worries, find a parking spot and then walk to Lot 2, **We'll be in the medium Blue, Toyota Camry...we'll probably make a sign or something to identify ourselves**

What do you need to do to contribute to making this a truly awesome experience?
-Show up (the earlier the better...let's get the party going!)
-If over 21, bring booze or snacks...if under 21, just snacks
-MAKE SIGNS (supporting RM, or just generally stating how fucking awesome we all are as fans...you get the idea)

There are only 2 rules to this (common sense really):
1) If you are UNDER 21, and decide to drink, do so at your own risk.  If a cop happens to come by and check IDs or something...you have to handle it yourself, and "we thought you were 21"...don't mean to be harsh, but I'm not getting arrested for supplying minors.

2) As far as I know, there is nothing to make tailgating illegal...but security doesn't need a law to break it up...so don't do stuff like break glass, liter, whatever, anything that says "HELLO SECURITY! I'm loud and the bane of your existence! PAY ATTENTION TO ME!"...you get the idea, like I said, common sense, really.

Here's a map of the parking lots: www.rosebowlstadium.com/parking.htm

If you're a local and are familiar with the stadium, and see anything in here that doesn't work for whatever reason...let me know ASAP, so I can change the info and no one heads to the stadium w/ the wrong info. Thanks!

Just RSVP in the comments, if possible, please leave your e-mail so if anything changes, I can keep everyone up to date!  If you know, go ahead and post a rough estimate of when you might get there and what you're bringing (especially if it's alcohol, to best avoid ending up with 5 bottles of vodka and nothing else haha)

HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE THERE!!

As some of my favourite football players are goalkeepers and being a part-time goalkeeper myself, I've collected pictures of the new goalkeeper kits of all 20 English Premier League clubs. It's an unwritten law that a goalkeeper kit has to stand out on the normal player's kit, particularly on colours, and Petr Cech maybe was the first with all these neon-yellow, neon-orange clothes, but this time the most horrendous kit (in my eyes) is the Everton Away kit (and I'm not talking about the goalkeeper one, I mean the player's kit!!). You can see it here:

In comparison to this... erm... accident, all goalkeeper kits are brilliant! But judge for yourself under the cut.

Bristol City gripped by speculation Michael Owen will join Robins on loan.

The city of Bristol is gripped by hope after it was suggested Michael Owen could become the second England international to join the the Robins this week.

Npower Championship side Bristol City are keen to strengthen their forward line having dealt with their defensive issues with the capture of David James from Portsmouth.

Rockin Robin: Michael Owen could follow David James to Bristol City

They originally had an approach for the loan of Danny Welbeck rebuffed by Manchester United but were shocked when they were told they could take Owen instead.

Owen hasn't featured for United since injuring his hamstring in the Carling Cup final against Aston Villa in February. However he is expected to feature on Wednesday night against an Irish League XI at the new Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The move would be one of the most surprising in Premier League history, especially with Owen still keen on resurrecting his international career.

One post on a Bristol City fans forum said: 'Blimey I dont think Im [sic] going to make it to next Saturday my heart cant stand all of this'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1300338/Manchester-United-striker-Michael-Owen-linked-loan-Bristol-City.html#ixzz0vfD7Jho0

Would be hilarious XD But unlikely as United wouldn't benefit from loaning him out and to the Championshiop. Bristol City wouldn't be too smart taking an ex England international either. lmao though.

This is the 2nd in the Uruguay gifspam series, and the next one will be about South Africa game.
The 1st one (Mexico & SK matches) is here.

So, I've heard URU-FRA game was boring? Erm, no.
Retarded, strange and silly at times - yes. But it was quite entertaining!

It was like a 1st season of a show, where everyone is slightly OOC, some of the regulars are not there yet and they're still figuring out the concept.
No Fucile, no Cavani, Forlan playing as a forward wrestling for the ball (hmm, he can work that too) and passing it to permanently offside Suarez... Yep, being offside was main Suarez schtick starting the game but he quickly got into character. :D

Also, it was this game, and it was Uruguay, that started French team epic meltdown. Uruguayans frustrated Domenech and Anelka, the coach took the player out and the rest was history.

But who cares when the game had THIS OMG!!!
YOU. ME. SHIRT. SHIRT. :D

To see what happens next, and other less important game stuff, and 51 gif including 4 Gurkouff gifs, come here.  )

Disclaimer - not dial-up friendly, and please don't hotlink outside this comm (should be OK within the comm).

And as I couldn't stand the lack of Fucile I had to add this, hope you like! :D
