Update on Drogba

Ivory Coast reveal Drogba 'definitely not out' of World Cup
Ivory Coast claim Didier Drogba is not out of the World Cup

Didier Drogba is "definitely not out" of the World Cup at this stage and is awaiting the verdict of the Ivory Coast medical team on his injured arm, a national federation spokesman has confirmed.

Drogba was forced out of the Ivorians' World Cup warm-up game against Japan in Sion today in the 17th minute and reports suggested the Chelsea striker could have fractured his right elbow - sparking fears he would miss the finals. However, the federation insist he has not yet been ruled out.

"He's not at all out of the World Cup," a spokesman told Press Association Sport. "He can still play."

The Ivory Coast are awaiting further medical tests but claim Drogba could even feature when they kick off their World Cup campaign against Portugal on June 15.

The spokesman continued: "We don't know if he will be able to play the first game - that depends on the verdict of the medical team.

"But he's definitely not out."

However, the federation were more cautious on their official website with the brief line: "Didier Drogba is not, for the moment, out of the World Cup."

I'm hoping he isn't out! Chelsea contract news! Michael Essien has extended his contract to 2015!
Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that Michael Essien has signed a two-year extension to his existing contract that will keep him at the club until 2015.

The Ghanaian said: 'I am delighted because the club has shown a very big confidence and interest in me.
'I am looking forward to coming back and enjoying my football and winning more trophies with the club. That is why I am here. I think it is one of the most important contracts in my career.'

Manager Carlo Ancelotti added: 'I am very happy that Michael has agreed to extend his time with us, as it means he will continue to be a very important player for Chelsea long into the future.'

Essien has appeared 185 times in Chelsea colours, scoring 22 goals since arriving from Lyon in 2005, but has not played for us since tearing a hamstring in December, and then damaging a knee on international duty in January, and will miss the World Cup this summer.

Chelsea TV has an exclusive interview with the midfielder on Sky channel 421 from 6.30pm this evening, along with the rest of the Blues News.

This. He could do some serious damage if he isn't careful.
