Atletico Madrid 0- 0 Real Madrid

Spanish fans, and the Spanish FA not giving two tosses, what's new? Antiblackness in Europe, again, what's new?

Watching this match, I see why Mourinho craves Varane and allegedly wants him at Chelsea. Varane was working, doing his JOB- and how!

Atletico Madrid started this match terribly. Their goal keeper made six saves in the first half. Six! I hope Simeone bought him a drink. Anyway, this is James' attempt at a goal kick. An attempt was made

It was an ugly, brutal match. Elbows and teeth. Blood was shed. Yes. Football demands sacrifice. Marcelo was so good

Turin was no slouch either. His hold up, dribbling, body strength- let me stop, OMG

Bale tried it. I read that he had surgery to pin back his ears as soon as he got some money. Okay, but what about his hair though? Nah, I'll stop ragging on him, he's grown on me- like a fungus. The English media are trying to get people to cheer for Real Madrid because Bale is the last British player left in the competition. People throw back their head, laugh and say 'No'

Mandz got elbowed, and bitten by Real Madrid players. Yes, bitten! Caravajal? Anyway, some Real Madrid supporters were defending the biting - "At least he's not as bad as Suarez?" This is where I ask- were you all born in a barn? Biting isn't acceptable! Ever!

In my eyes, Sergio Ramos is the true captain of Real Madrid. Also, I think him and Alberto Moreno must have decided to get the same hair cut talking over Skype or something. Why it looking like a surgical scar though?

So. Much. Head(ers).

Attacks blunted on both sides

Real Madrid, smarting from the seven times they've met Atletico Madrid and unable to defeat them, came with tonnes of testosterone today

My MOTM right here. A good goal keeper can save your house, marriage, and this case, Champions League chances

Sums up the match, really

Bonus
Juventus 1- 0 Monaco

Penalty

Pirlo, statesman of the game, claps for the fans

The grand dame of Serie A had her subjects turn out in their finery

The atmosphere expectant, jubilant, for she demands no less

Her soldiers take their picture

Tevez high on his successful penalty

Buffon tested but not beaten

Missive of his deeds sent far and wide into the twittersphere

Pirlo did his work

Ouch at that ink

Claudio laid out by Yannick

When on his feet, Marchisio did damage.

Looking at the Nike kit for the last time. They'll be moving to Adidas this season
OP: done! Cheers, jeers and commentary pushback, you know the drill! Question, can anyone give me hints in developing language listening skills for my Spanish listening? I'm crap right now. Thanks!
Now on to football :D
Morata was completely useless which is good.
And speaking of useless strikers, Benz supposedly had a terrible match. He needs to be benched. How he gets away with flopping and 1/5th of the criticism Bale gets is beyond me. And Crispy was also pretty bad? And lmao, Real fans defending Carvajal. I'll be shocked if the UEFA takes any action against him.
No Arab players need apply to Israeli football team, coach says
I read about that and there is so much I could say about it but I'm not going to because I don't wanna get into such subjects.
Asked if he didn’t think bringing in an Arab player would help change the racist culture of the fans, Levi replied: “Let the education minister change the culture and not ask us to change the culture of a people that is centuries old.”
Levi said his job was to “coach the team, not to educate anyone.”
I just...I can't.
And that letter from Tactics Tim, Gooner and Scourge of White Hart Lane was really heart warming. A lot of the Spurs supporters are very bitter that they lost to him, I hear.
Re: Now on to football :D
Carvajal and the biting, when I heard the excuses I was like, "Yeahhhh, okay." Oh well, I'm sure that Simeone will now be satisfied that Mandz suffers for the team (he made some comment about Mandz not wanting to suffer for the team before). Simeone was satisfied with the result, because although they scored no goals, they gave none away either.
Hooo Tatics Tim and Spurs. Yeah, they were bitter, extremely bitter. But you know, it be like that sometimes. Villa got a new manager boost and finally Bentake is getting service, confidence and belief, and Spurs have no defence. It was going to happen.
I'm just glad that Pochettino finally (finally!) got the okay to construct his team as he now wants (a final will do that for you). I'd be surprised if half of the team comes back into the next season. Oh, Adebayor says that he won't leave Spurs unless it's for Chelsea or Real Madrid - everyone's now howling. They're also howling re: the fact that Spurs might have to do Europa again, so people would rather not qualify for Europa (that is, come eighth or lower) than have to spend the FIFTH year doing Europa. But I think the English clubs need to get out of that CL or bust mindset, especially lower placed clubs like Spurs, Saints (they seem to be in the mix) and the rest. European competition won't go away, and I know that we've gone for greed over glory, but in order to be the best, you have to beat the rest.
RE: Re: Now on to football :D
Re: Re: Now on to football :D
However, that being said, I do think that the English teams are hurting themselves by dismissing Europa. Like you said, Chelsea won and came runners up. Diego Simeone used the Europa win with Atlético Madrid as a foundation to build on. It's not the 'also ran' competition of yesteryear, especially now with a CL place as carrot and pathway, and there's more money in the Europa league this coming season.
Spurs have breath, true, but not depth. I do think that's something Pochettino seems to be giving an eye to in the summer. There's been a lot of deadwood with AVB and Sherwood, and then Pochettino wasn't allowed to have his own choice of players (Stambouli... wasn't it). I do think Europa is a good teething ground if you want to give academy talent a run out, and give players some playing time. Harry Kane got his start in Europa, I think Mason got his start in Europa as well, and then it was based on that (since if they fell out of Europa, they could focus on less matches) and it was a relatively low stress way of feeling out talent, and I think that benefitted Kane and Mason, and can benefit other academy grads, especially since when they come to the PL, they're supposedly surprised at how loud it is (those who break straight in, not those who go on loan. Championship sides and League 1 crowds are LOUD).
But that being said, I can see why people want top four. It isn't a hard slog and you don't really travel to random places in Greece or Cyprus, but with the big sexy Spanish and Italian teams.
Idek, I think for teams that won't get into top four (due to talent and money and money) should really change their attitude towards Europa. Especially since, if you can't beat Europa league talent, how the hell are you going to stomp with the big boys of CL, you know?
RE: Now on to football :D
Carvajal deserved a dark red last night. Absolutely ridiculous. He fell into their game and it was way beyond stupid of him to lash out like that.
RE: Now on to football :D
RE: Now on to football :D
There was more than one incident with Mandzu pulling on his collar iirc and Dani has a temper. They kept bumping into each other all night, so I expected drama but not that.
The ref brought Ramos together with someone (Rául? I forget) and made them touch butts to calm down, idk.. He did get a yellow!
RE: Now on to football :D
Haha, how surprising.
People are still shitting on Bale though :(
