Champions League!

Pictures
Atletico Madrid 0- 0 Real Madrid

Spanish fans, and the Spanish FA not giving two tosses, what's new? Antiblackness in Europe, again, what's new?

Watching this match, I see why Mourinho craves Varane and allegedly wants him at Chelsea. Varane was working, doing his JOB- and how!

Atletico Madrid started this match terribly. Their goal keeper made six saves in the first half. Six! I hope Simeone bought him a drink. Anyway, this is James' attempt at a goal kick. An attempt was made

It was an ugly, brutal match. Elbows and teeth. Blood was shed. Yes. Football demands sacrifice. Marcelo was so good

Turin was no slouch either. His hold up, dribbling, body strength- let me stop, OMG

Bale tried it. I read that he had surgery to pin back his ears as soon as he got some money. Okay, but what about his hair though? Nah, I'll stop ragging on him, he's grown on me- like a fungus. The English media are trying to get people to cheer for Real Madrid because Bale is the last British player left in the competition. People throw back their head, laugh and say 'No'

Mandz got elbowed, and bitten by Real Madrid players. Yes, bitten! Caravajal? Anyway, some Real Madrid supporters were defending the biting - "At least he's not as bad as Suarez?" This is where I ask- were you all born in a barn? Biting isn't acceptable! Ever!

In my eyes, Sergio Ramos is the true captain of Real Madrid. Also, I think him and Alberto Moreno must have decided to get the same hair cut talking over Skype or something. Why it looking like a surgical scar though?

So. Much. Head(ers).

Attacks blunted on both sides

Real Madrid, smarting from the seven times they've met Atletico Madrid and unable to defeat them, came with tonnes of testosterone today

My MOTM right here. A good goal keeper can save your house, marriage, and this case, Champions League chances

Sums up the match, really

Bonus

Juventus 1- 0 Monaco

Penalty

Pirlo, statesman of the game, claps for the fans

The grand dame of Serie A had her subjects turn out in their finery

The atmosphere expectant, jubilant, for she demands no less

Her soldiers take their picture

Tevez high on his successful penalty

Buffon tested but not beaten

Missive of his deeds sent far and wide into the twittersphere

Pirlo did his work

Ouch at that ink

Claudio laid out by Yannick

When on his feet, Marchisio did damage.

Looking at the Nike kit for the last time. They'll be moving to Adidas this season

OP: done! Cheers, jeers and commentary pushback, you know the drill! Question, can anyone give me hints in developing language listening skills for my Spanish listening? I'm crap right now. Thanks!

Okay, these are just a few websites I use for brushing up on my French. I'm not sure whether all have some or any listening exercises in Spanish.

This is a pretty decent one: http://fsi-languages.yojik.eu/languages/spanish-index.html (http://fsi-languages.yojik.eu/languages/spanish-index.html)

Busuu (https://www.busuu.com/enc/) and Memrise (https://www.memrise.com) are really great. They have a lot of stuff, from beginner's to extremely advanced courses, and everything is crowd sourced. You'll have to sign up but they're worth it. They have apps for iOS and Android too.

There's the usual Duolingo (https://www.duolingo.com) but I'm sure you're too advanced for that.

UT Austin has a very good website for French and I just googled it to find that they have a page for Spanish too: https://www.laits.utexas.edu/spe/ (https://www.laits.utexas.edu/spe/)

A friend of mine uses Audiria (http://www.audiria.com) which has podcasts.

Watching telenovelas also helps :D

Now on to football :D

I got bored 20 minutes into the Madrid derby and switched to Juve-Monaco. Monaco weren't bad, they parked the bus a lot but also attacked a bit. They learnt well from the match against Arsenal. Juve started out sluggishly. Vidal and Tevez missed a number of good opportunities but they played better in the second half and deserved the penalty.

Morata was completely useless which is good.

And speaking of useless strikers, Benz supposedly had a terrible match. He needs to be benched. How he gets away with flopping and 1/5th of the criticism Bale gets is beyond me. And Crispy was also pretty bad? And lmao, Real fans defending Carvajal. I'll be shocked if the UEFA takes any action against him.

No Arab players need apply to Israeli football team, coach says

I read about that and there is so much I could say about it but I'm not going to because I don't wanna get into such subjects.

Asked if he didn’t think bringing in an Arab player would help change the racist culture of the fans, Levi replied: “Let the education minister change the culture and not ask us to change the culture of a people that is centuries old.”

Levi said his job was to “coach the team, not to educate anyone.”

I just...I can't.

And that letter from Tactics Tim, Gooner and Scourge of White Hart Lane was really heart warming. A lot of the Spurs supporters are very bitter that they lost to him, I hear.

Wow, from your gif that does suspiciously look like a bite indeed, the way he turns into the arm.

[identity profile] mrscrapbag.livejournal.com 2015-04-15 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
i'm going to be the devil's advocate here. are we really sure that's a bite? the way i saw it mandukic was holding him in the collar so of course his face was going to be all up in his arms.. did mandzukic react at all like he was bitten? when i was watching it in real time i only saw the two punches dani dished (smh dani you dumb fucker) and then mandzukic fell to the ground.

Image

yeah this was disgusting ugh. i also read that there was already an incident wherein atleti fans where throwing the monkey chants at marcelo while he was with his son enzo so he had to put his hands on his son's ears so he won't hear the disgusting racists. marcelo and his family does not deserve this ugh this is making me angry.

Firstly, WTF @ that Israeli coach. I don't think putting a player safety at risk (which shouldn't even be a problem in the first place, in an ideal world where people can be at peace with each other) for the sake of increasing understanding is a good idea (although understanding is the only way forward in cases like this) but I do believe football is a good platform for education. It's not right to come out and say what he did. In Northern Ireland, Linfield had a sort of unofficial policy about not signing Catholic players, especially during the Troubles, which I think, although idiotic and sectarian, prevented a lot of unnecessary trouble.

TBH, I'd like to think that Carvajal didn't bite Mandzu because, well, it's weird as fuck, let's be honest. He blatantly punched him, though, which is stupid as well. Ramos' elbow on Mandzu looked entirely accidental so there's not much to say in respects to that. He did get totally battered and the ref defo was not giving him any sympathy (not a word, Mario Saúrez) the entire night. There was a point in the game that Ramos shoved Mandzukic, he got really mad and Koke gestured to the bench, pointing at his head, as if to say that Mandzu had lost it. Not that Koke doesn't usually spend 15% of his time on the pitch trying to get Mandzu to calm the fuck down.

On Koke, although he didn't play that well, can we all just appreciate how saintly he reacted to Ramos kicking out at him? I mean HIS FACE. He's just like 'bro, what the fuck is your problem?'

What's going on with Klopp? Did he announce he's leaving Dortmund?

Saw a PSG fan account tweet, "Prepare the Nasser jet. Destination: Dortmund," with a picture of Nasser attached lol.

For those who understand German, the press conference will be live at http://live.bvbtotal.de/ in... damn, twenty minutes. Hopelessly behind today because I decided I should really try to fix my shower.

mandzukic was crazed and carvajal let atleti get to him. Idk if that was a bite tho cause mandzukic doesn't react to it but does cause the punch.

Horseface's haircut totally looks like a surgical scar, like I was nearly like "did something happen to him???"

I'm wondering how the hell david luiz got healed so fast in Russia and is on the squad today O.o like what kind of witchcraft did he get in Russia??? He was supposed to be out for weeks not days

Mandzukic just wrote on Twitter that there was no bite (ni mordisco). Case dismissed. :P

Buenos días! El partido de ayer fue muy duro y los dos equipos lo dimos todo, pero para mí no hubo ninguna polémica, ni mordisco, ni nada.

Real started the game so attacking, it didn't seem good for Atleti, but thankfully Oblak handled it great and the team got it together in the 2nd half. The game was so violent though, I was sure someone would get expulsed sooner or later (Mandzu really needs to learn to calm down and not argue with the refs):

Also, Simeone said that he doesn't talk to Mandzu much because of the language barrier. I can't imagine how that works, lol. I hope Mandzu is learning Spanish, though.

The result is not too bad for Atleti, although I was hoping they'd win, since it's less likely they do it at Bernabeu. The fact that they didn't concede could help. I cannot even imagine Real going out from the competition at this stage, but on the other hand I can imagine Atleti winning over them. We'll see, next Wednesday will be thrilling!

In unrelated news, look at RVP's son's cocky celebration, haha:

Btw, that's Vidal's penalty for Juventus, not Tevez's. I haven't seen him in a while, was he injured?

[identity profile] theciz.livejournal.com 2015-04-15 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
lol that Madrid game.

How did Ramos not get sent off?

How did Carvajal not get sent off?

How did Mandzukic not get sent off? Why did he not get taken off when he kept starting shit afterwards?

Also lol at the fact that all Torres did when he came on was dive. 5 minutes standing, 5 minutes on his arse lmao.

Midweek entertainment at its finest.

Also, what bite? First I've heard of this lol. Saw all the other shit though.

I was surprised, though, I thought Atletico would be a better team? They just played like a Spanish Stoke lol.

Great pics OP! I had no idea Carlitos had his entire back inked. I've love to know what it all means.

I admire Bale's fortitude & determination to do well. Go Gareth. You and your silly hairband. :p

The Juventus squad look like a tough bunch I wouldn't want to meet in an alley. Except for Patrice, who's got a smooth, unblemished face. He certainly made a great career move, bailing out of United and landing in Serie A's best team. :D
