tidbits

Chatter from the sidelines

Pictures

Old picture- idek what

Southampton players skiing- they were whisked away to take off the stress of the season. No shade but, Koeman put on reserve sides to get knocked out of the local cups early, the Saints didn't do Europa league, they just have their clutch of 34 matches (to Spurs 43 or thereabouts) so WHAT STRESS OF THE SEASON? If the Saints are in say, top six at the end of the season, they're going to have more games than they do right now

Koeman didn't want a hot country for them to go to- makes sense. Switzerland is about three hours by flight compared to say eight hours if you're going somewhere warm at this time of year. Not mad

Guiterrez and DeGea are all hugs- Guiterrez's first match after his recovery from testicular cancer

Andrea Herrera receives player of the month for Manchester United in Feb, 2015. Hopes to get many more. Classy player on the pitch.

I was like, "Oh Alberto, you grew into your stubble and got rid of that awful line in your haircut--- it's Steven Gerrard? FML

Marca's news- Real Madrid says NO to holding the Copa del Rey final in its stadium

Tin Tin Reus poses with his new Puma shoes

Emre Can praying before a match. Mesuit Ozil does this too. I like this picture

LFC players arriving at Anfield to prepare for the Burnley match

Sergio Ramos will be back for the Levante game. I was reading a gossipy site re: his surgeries. Nose straightened, ears tucked back, and something else. I'm not mad, if you must get plastic surgery, do it right. At least his face came out improved at the end of it

Respect to Lucas Silva, he's hit the ground running and doesn't seem to be overawed by the company he now finds himself a part of

James begins training with the team in April

OP: and done! Thanks for reading. Any news, pushback against commentary and the rest of it, leave and I'll get done. Please tag the posts if I've missed anything, thank you!

happy that almost all other Serie A clubs are showing solidarity to Parma. it's still one hell of a mess. the loan of around €5 billion to Parma's curator was approved, but players will still lose about 80% of their salary. a co-worker who's a Parma fan is heartbroken and has lost all hope, he's pretty much looking for a second club to support. again, mess.

oh and btw - and as promised a few days ago - here's a Serie A photo source (http://www.corrieredellosport.it/archivio/foto/Serie%20A/).

MLS season starts Like fetch, it's trying to happen
lmao, dead. reposting this (http://www.theguardian.com/football/video/2015/mar/06/mls-major-league-soccer-video) because ~relevant.

Real Madrid to pay €20 million for Danilo
get that €€€, Porto. <3

not football related, but since i saw the headline in AS: everything about Alonso's crash stinks.

It's such a strange story but I cannot put my finger on what's wrong.

[identity profile] untxi.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
right? he was supposedly hospitalized for a concussion, yet stayed 3 days at the hospital - which, ok, he's a famous sportsman and maybe they were being extra cautious, but it's still strange. then the official medical press release mentioned 'he's okay from a neurological and cardiac standpoint'. cardiac? hmm. then doctors say he can't race for a month. why?!

i'm nowhere near deep enough into F1 to be aware of all the details and latest news & theories on this, but A LOT people are talking about an electric shock of some sort - which would make all of the above far more understandable... McLaren is apparently denying it, but since it was a private test race they're not forced to disclose anything. it's all just very, very weird.

I read about the electric shock. If he just had a concussion the cardiac standpoint would be strange unless they suspect that a cardiac problem was the cause of the crash but that could mean the end of his career then.
An electric shock would make sense in a way.
But when journalists start talking about medical problems, it rarely makes any sense.

[identity profile] berta-boo.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I know nothing about F1, but I remember reading somewhere that his concussion was pretty intense so doctors were saying that if he were to have another one within a month it could lead to fatal brain swelling. I think they called it a prolonged concussion with memory loss, but I have no idea how common that is or what it means really.

I just saw that the Man Utd player (Evans? the one who denied any spitting whatsoever) got a 6-match ban while Cisse(?), who reacted by spitting back and apologized before he was even charged, got a 7-MATCH ban. Wtf???

Yup, when I saw the pics of Reus and the other player wearing masks, I was surprised there wasn't any mention of a yellow card. I remember Neymar was once sent off for wearing a mask the crowd gave him (when he was at Santos).

[identity profile] aquaecolore.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Auba did get a yellow, the people giving the reminder seem a bit put off Reus didn't.

(Auba had a Spiderman mask as a goal celebration in the summer as well xD Not sure if he got carded then)

About the spitting bans..

[identity profile] jesscp.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Cisse got a 7 match ban because he already had a 1 match ban from a previous game.

The thing that pissed me off with that situation is Cisse held his hands up and apologised for his conduct - even now, Evans and that prat LVG are STILL maintaining he didn't spit at Cisse. I've watched the video and it's clear he spat in his direction and at Cisse - if he wanted to spit, he could have easily turned away and done it. I hate the whole male culture of spitting constantly anyway, but to have been caught on video and STILL be denying it... well you can tell why LVG and Man Utd are no longer everyone's favourites, although they still seem to get away with a lot.

RE: About the spitting bans..

[identity profile] mundodeamor.livejournal.com 2015-03-08 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's the denying that baffles my mind. Plus, I know "he did it first!" might sound childish, but I don't think they should get the same ban, keeping in mind that Cisse reacted to Evans' spit and he showed remorse.

Sepp Blatter is a corrupt asshole but at least women's football is improving and growing and he dared to speak out against Iran on this.

I can understand that Koeman goes teambuilding but aren't those all kinda high-risk activities for footballers?

So Kane is not allowed to go and play the U21 Euros because of burn-out but he can travel all the way to Sydney for one match?
Pochettino should make sure that Kane doesn't get burned out. Kane should go to that tournament. He played in the qualifiers and he hasn't been called up to the senior side yet. Unless the player is an undisputed part of the senior side, they should call him up, Sterling too for example.
(Götze is technically still eligible for this tournament but calling him up would be ridiculous.)
Kane did not feature in the World Cup so this tournament would be good for him.

[identity profile] marsyke.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The most sensible thing in my eyes would be sending Kane with the U21s after the seasons ends. And to give him a few weeks off after the tournament ends on June 30. And no senior caps until September.
I know that Pochettino is the club coach but international football is important for football players, it's an honour. Kompany had a major row with Hamburg when he went to play at the Olympics and they sold him a week later. The same goes for Messi, but that ended well, it was Guardiola who gave permission to Messi to go and win the gold in Beijing.
It's a once in a life time opportunity for Kane. If he wants to go, he should be allowed to go.

OP that damn song is stuck in my head now.

[identity profile] jesscp.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really see the point in banning the masks... doesn't help that age old stereotype that the Germans have 'no sense of humour'. The Batman and Robin masks are hardly covering the entire face and it wasn't TOO time wasting - ugh idk, I'm on painkillers right now so I'm pretty grouchy at everything, there really might be a valid reason to this!

Thoughts on Southampton going skiing - is skiing maybe not the most ideal sport to take up for a footballer, considering you ca probably injure yourself badly?!

RE: Re: OP that damn song is stuck in my head now.

[identity profile] jesscp.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, but even going on the gentle slopes, wintersports like you said is just a little too risky! I can imagine footballers wouldn't want to just do easy slopes anyway!

I liked the masks too, I thought it was funny and cute, yes it wasted time but I doubt Schalke would have managed a win by that point anyway, they were spent as soon as they got into the second half. Oh I love Pierreus - they both genuinely seem to be on the same wavelength in terms of being total idiots with crap dress sense, but I see their partnership working well. For me, Gotzeus as it's known was just 2 individuals working with each other to impress, as opposed to in a team for the greater good. The dollar signs were bright in Mario's eyes for sure at BvB. Ha I'm so bitter at him still after all this time.

[identity profile] chuk-is-dazzled.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
i watched la galaxy and chicago fire open up the mls season and i fell asleep in the middle of the second half lol. first europe plays too early and now mls plays too late :O well it wasnt that late but i start getting sleepy around 10pm which was around the 2nd half kick off

[identity profile] burning-moon117.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was a good game, however the Uni Mas SAP thing was a hot mess.

[identity profile] chuk-is-dazzled.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
hearing english on univision(unimas) was trippy, i think those comms played a part in me falling asleep lol. i shoulda kept it in spanish

[identity profile] burning-moon117.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
well for me, first the English didn't work, and then when it did, the English commentary was behind the stream, then in the 2nd half, the stream was behind the English commentary. I gave up and had it in Spanish. But I know some people weren't able to get it in English at all

[identity profile] chuk-is-dazzled.livejournal.com 2015-03-07 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
ah, i was reading reddit and i think it wasnt working for some people either.
