Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has been accused of making a homophobic slur prior to Tuesday's Champions League game away to CSKA Moscow.

Mourinho is alleged to have called match officials "faggots" prior to the 1-1 draw in Moscow.

The European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation (EGLSF) has filed a complaint against the Special One, while co-president Louise Englefield has urged UEFA to take action against the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss.

"Homophobia is unacceptable from anyone in football, much less from one of the game's most senior figures," Englefield was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.

"We are deeply disappointed that Mr. Mourinho is casually using homophobic terms of abuse in his workplace.

"It is especially sad that these comments have been made during the International Football v Homophobia campaign week.

"As long-standing partners of the FARE network, we call on UEFA to take action and impose appropriate sanctions."

at last there is a reason for my hatred of him that isn't "but i hate all the teams he coaches/he's an asshole, really"

but it's not acceptable for mourinho to call an official a "faggot" (or use any other homophobic slur, actually) - certainly not an official who is not spanish and would not understand the context, even if he was using it as a "term of endearment".

and given the situation, i doubt it was a term of endearment.

it's a way to call people, I don't really think he meant an homophobic slur because it doesn't work that way in Spanish

honestly people need to get down that high horse, you hear far worse things every day in Spanish stadiums, much more offensive and yet no one takes it for more than it actually is: we're loudmouthed, cuss a lot and say all kinds of things to each other.

now racial slurs are what they are: bad because you don't really use them in context in Spanish but any insult is basically game.

i do understand that it's different in spanish and maybe he didn't intend for it to be used in the homophobic manner, but you can see why so many gay people (and in this case, the EGLSF) have got so upset over this. because it's also possible that he DID intend for it to be a homophobic slur.

i think mourinho is very clever and he knew exactly what he was saying - if he wanted to offend, he could have said something like "you asshole", something without a homophobic meaning. i don't like or approve of those words being used, but certainly not outside of spain and to an official who is not spanish and would not understand the context of it all.
