Uh, what? Of course it was a foul. It was a two-footed tackle. Getting the ball is irrelevant if you go in two-footed.

His other leg was on the ground. If you call that a two footed tackle you might as well ban all tackles.

And what about that Giggs foul from behind? No card then? Great consistency.

It's borderline, both feet went in. You can argue the other foot was late, but referees have discretion when it's that close, he'd never win an appeal.

Giggs deserved a yellow, said it on twitter and I'll say it here.

The rules state that a two footed tackle is punishable by yellow OR red, depending on the control, aggressiveness, etc behind it. Kompany was composed, it was a clean tackle that won the ball and there was no contact. Yellow card definitely, though. Because it's still both feet and that's a no-no

As I've said elsewhere, it was a borderline call that could have been either a yellow or a red, and it was his fault for putting the referee in a position of using his discretion.

I definitely disagree with the decision still. But I think my main issue is the inconsistency from refs. I've only been a fan for a couple of years and it still gets under my skin because they make many wrong calls

It's discretionary, yes. Without analyzing replay ala American football, it can't ever be that precise.

Yeah, I'll never understand why they dont do it. Have an assistant right there so it doesn't take more an 15 seconds away from playing time. Idk, I think it would effect game play less than a random red card 10 minutes in that may or may not have been the right decision.

There are too many fouls, unfortunately. But I suppose if you limited it to "is this a red card?" calls.

Oh, absolutely. Only calls that can alter how a game can end up (ie straight Red cards, second yellows, and penalties) Too much diving in the penalty box to ignore that one.
