France winger Franck Ribery is ending his career with the national team to focus on his family, the winger, who missed the 2014 World Cup through injury, said on Wednesday.

“I am stopping,” the 31-year-old told German magazine Kicker. “I realized that this moment has come.

“I want to focus on my family and fully concentrate on my work at Bayern Munich and make way in the national team for the many young and exciting players.”

Ribery won 81 caps and scored 16 goals for France.

Liverpool fans are particularly excited that the club has reached an agreement to sign Alberto Moreno from Sevilla.

The excitement doesn’t stem from their need for a new left-back or that the protracted transfer is finally reaching its conclusion. No, it’s the fact that Moreno looks like the offspring of most Liverpool supporters’ favourite midfield of the last generation that is creating a bit of a stir.

Many Reds fans have noted that Spain international Moreno looks very much like he is the result of a secret Anfield tryst between Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso.

In other news, Per Mertesacker considers retirement from the National Team, Zlatan Ibrahimovic announces that he will retire from football during the next two years and Javi Martinez suffered a rupture of his frontal crossed ligament (lig. cruciatum craniale), will have surgery in the US soon and will be out for the whole first part of the season. Which - rumours running wild - brings us back to Sami Khedira and Mehdi Benatira who seem to be on Bayern's agenda for possible substitutes.
