Liverpool land Ngog

Striker arrives on four-year deal

Liverpool have announced the signing of teenage striker David Ngog from Paris Saint Germain.

The 19-year-old Frenchman has penned a four-year deal at Anfield and arrives for an undisclosed fee.

Ngog, who is a cousin of former Newcastle United defender Jean-Alain Boumsong, impressed at Parc Des Princes last term, despite the Ligue 1 club's poor form.

The youngster becomes manager Rafa Benitez's fourth signing of the summer following the captures of Andrea Dossena, Diego Cavalieri and Philipp Degen.

For anyone with a passing interest in Spanish football, Phil Ball's articles are a must. He is knowledgable about the game there without coming over as being too pretentious or having insider information.

Yet, admiration of Ball as a writer have nothing to do with this post: a piece in the latest edition of the magazine When Saturday Comes' weekly e-mail roundup is the source of inspiration. As a resident of San Sebastian, and a supporter of the city's main team Real Sociedad, he has always been a huge fan of Xabi Alonso.

Chelsea 'offer Frank Lampard record breaking £39 million deal'

By Emily Benammar

The Stamford Bridge club are hoping to dissuade Lampard from making a move to Inter Milan that would reunite him with Chelsea former manager Jose Mourinho.

With one season remaining on his current contract, Lampard's future remains in doubt after months of wrangling over a new deal.

But fresh talks with club chief executive Peter Kenyon are reported to have taken place last week ahead of the club's pre-season tour of China. And though pen has not yet met paper on the deal, which would see Lampard remain at Chelsea for the rest of his career, sources at the club are confident that it will go ahead.

Chelsea had previously offered a four-year terms worth £140,000 a week, telling the 30-year-old he would be held to the remaining year of his contract if he did not accept.

Lampard, seeking another 12 months on the deal, was reported to have told friends that he intended to sign a pre-contract with Inter in January allowing him to move next summer for free.

Mourinho, who made no secret of his desire to take Lampard to the Italian league, has already had a £7.95 million bid for the player rejected. Now, however, it seems that the 'Special One' has lost out.

A source at Stamford Bridge told the Daily Express: "The club are desperate to keep hold of Frank. They had talks with him just before the China tour which they hope will finally convince him to stay long term.

"I know Frank is very tempted by the offer as it means he could potentially see the rest of his career out at Chelsea, and there is every chance he could sign.

"However, a lot of bad feeling was created when details of the contract negotiations were being publicly discussed by the club and there are still some issues to iron out."

If the deal goes ahead Lampard, who is currently on £130,000-a-week, would over take Ronaldinho (£135,000) and Kaka (£144,000) and become the highest paid footballer in Europe.
