Theo Walcott left out of England’s World Cup squad.

Theo Walcott is the shock omission from England’s 23-man World Cup squad after Shaun Wright-Phillips was preferred by Fabio Capello.

Fabio Capello has dropped Arsenal winger Theo Walcott from his final 23-man World Cup squad, but Gareth Barry will travel after passing a last-minute fitness test on his injured ankle.

The Arsenal winger has always said that he could not take his place at the finals for granted, but he did not see Capello's rejection coming. The 21-year-old, the surprise inclusion in Sven-Goran Eriksson's squad for the last World Cup in Germany, has been left devastated.

The decision to name Barry in the squad to travel to South Africa tomorrow means there is no place for Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone.

The other five players who were called by Capello to be told they would not be travelling were Tottenham's Michael Dawson, West Ham's Scott Parker, Sunderland's Darren Bent, Everton's Leighton Baines, and Manchester City's Adam Johnson.

England's opening game in Group C is against the United States on 12 June.

England's World Cup squad

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green.

Defenders: Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock.

Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, , Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Forwards: Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney.

Theo Walcott statment:

“I am very disappointed not to be included in the squad going out to South Africa, but completely respect Mr Capello’s decision. I would like to wish the team the best of luck and hope they have a really successful tournament.”

According to my mate who's a big everton fan Baines has said in the past he hates being away from home and even finds being away for 1 night after away games with everton hard. He still lives down the same road as his mum and dad and stays overnight at theirs every now and then even though he's married with 3 kids, the big girls blouse :D

It's hilarious, the blueshite are furious that Carra's going and he isn't. Ifithadntofbeenferdewerldcupbeininsouthafricabaineswouldvebeenboss....

remember during the last WC when the media and such were acting as if Walcott would be the second coming.

Warnock is a shocker but I suppose he's a better substitute than Baines if Cole gets injured.

i take consolation in the fact he's playing for the best club in the world and staying at home fucking his super hot girlfriend

and when england inevitably flames out in the quarters on penalties everyone is going to jump all over capello

Awww Theo must be gutted. I'd defo pick Lennon over him and he's so frustrating to watch but I'm not sure whether Wright-Phillips is that much better an option.

But whatevs, YAAAAAAAAAY CARRA :D

Fabio said before the Japan friendly that we won't find out until the line-up for the USA match is announced. He's such a tease :P

Carrick... not sure what to make of this. Sure he has more experience than Hudd and Parker but he didn't exactly have the best of seasons. But then again, when he's on form, he's an exceptional player.
