Man City And Tottenham Reveal New York Dates As Part Of US Tour

Only one club will be competing in the Champions League next season, but it seems both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City will be heading to New York as part of their preparations for the new campaign.

Having already revealed their intention to tour the United States, the two Premier League clubs announced on Wednesday that as part of their respective pre-season tours they will take part in a four-day tournament from July 21 to 25 in the Big Apple with hosts New York Red Bulls and Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.

Both sides are scheduled to play two games as part of the 'New York Football Challenge', which will all take place at Red Bull Arena.

Despite uncertainty over his long-term future at Eastlands, Roberto Mancini is looking forward to the games as perfect preparation for the 2010-11 season.

“We have big ambitions for the Premier League next season, and this tournament will give us the perfect opportunity to prepare for our season with some highly competitive games, enthusiastic supporters and world class facilities," Mancini said on his club's official website.

“It will be fantastic for us to visit the United States, and especially for us to visit New York during our tour of the East Coast."

Exact details of the dates of individual fixtures will be released "in due course", according to the club.

H&G were idiots when they took over Liverpool and never sent them on a US Tour. Talk about being proud to be an american.

LFC is shit on capitalizing financially on their success

it makes me sad, i wanna see my boys too!!!

there are man city fans in new york?

[identity profile] englishmann.livejournal.com 2010-04-22 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
There might be a grand total of five in the entire NE United States, if they're really lucky.

[identity profile] fuchsiabella.livejournal.com 2010-04-22 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
lol. hope none of them are busy that weekend.

[identity profile] idwlfc89.livejournal.com 2010-04-22 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
you'd be surprised how easily football clubs win fans in the US win a little flash and free merchandise

Chelsea was unknown in the states, and hardly ever shown on television until after RA took over. they'd benefitted financially from US tours, so have the mancs

but yeah, there's one city fan that goes to the pub i go to, he just started showing up this year :b

[identity profile] englishmann.livejournal.com 2010-04-22 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm well aware of all this. I was being snarky with a bit of City hatred. There's one or two at the pub I go to when I'm in America.

Teams coming to play in the States is what gets a lot of people to become interested in the Prem if they weren't already. After long conversations of "So why exactly do you like this team?" several of my friends have said because they got to see them play over here. Namely, Chelsea and Manchester United.

So like, Man City's five supporters might increase to something like seven. They might get more people to show up if they leave off the "City" part of their name when advertising. ;)

Probably because a post that has Arsenal and Mosquito netting got tagged as "lol" and didn't talk about WHY Arsenal (and Spurs, and Ivory Coast, and others) made these videos.... might be why you didn't know. ANYWAY... Crouch is RIDICULOUS and I needed an icon of it.
