Well, how the story goes is that, when Monaco were doing very well, a certain Franz Beckenbauer contacted Grandpère about managing Bayern. Grandpère was very keen on moving to Bayern, but Monaco were not and blocked him from having further talks. After a bad start to the season (and this was just a month in), they decided to sack him (Bayern got Trappatoni instead). And the rest is history.
