Klose wants nothing to do with Lazio fan’s Nazi banner

Miroslav Klose became a Lazio hero on Sunday with his late winner against Roma, but he also got a taste of the more unsavory fascist segment of Mussolini's favorite club.

From the AP: An Associated Press photo showed Lazio supporters holding up a banner that said "Klose mit uns"—"Klose with us"—during Sunday's derby with Roma, with the S's written in old German script in the style of the SS.
The phrase is a takeoff on an old military slogan, "Gott mit uns"—"God with us"—that was also used by the Nazis.

The ANSA news agency reports Klose saying, "Football cannot be mixed with politics. Politics should remain outside the stadium."

In other words: "Please don't make Nazi-inspired signs about me."

Hopefully Lazio fans respect Klose's wishes and don't use the German striker (who was born in Poland) to push the Nazi theme any further. The chances of that happening seem pretty slim, though.

Most appropriate icon ever.

Those Lazio ultras are damn lucky Erik didn't get pissed off at them. Look what he did to those retired Nazis in Argentina.

I am saying in here again, drawing comparison between germans, especially when they are of polish descent happened to be born in Poland shows a.) a total lack of awareness and b.) how fucked up there political views are.

ew

on a related but happier note, apparently a couple of weeks ago at hansa rostock (2. buli ex-east german side with a history of far-right ultras) the fans were chanting "nazis raus" so there's some hope somewhere i guess

we actually denied some racist scumbags access to our stadium when they tried to enter too! Plus our board of directors had a press conference on 20.02.2007 where they condemned the suptras. So it's not like it's the far right movement is being ignored here.

Why would anyone think that would be well received?

Just because Lazio has a fascist nature in a vocal portion of its fan etc does not mean that Klose should accept this. It's a strong statement with the player says "I'm not ok with this" because especially when it's a player who is doing well for you it might muzzle some of the racism. It won't solve it, but it could be a start.

You know, I'm pretty DAMN sure your average German would find this sort of "compliment" REALLY FUCKING INSULTING. The fact that Klose is ethnically Polish just makes the fail even worse.

Ultras: not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.
