Let's play a game, shall we?

The Telegraph has a random transfer rumor generator called the Babb.

This is what I got when I put Arsenal in:

"PAULINHO AGREES BLOCKBUSTER DEAL WITH ARSENAL FOR A FEE RUMOURED TO BE £55.4M"

And when I typed Dortmund:

"GERARD PIQUE POISED FOR SHOCK MOVE TO BORUSSIA DORTMUND FOR A FEE RUMOURED TO BE £45.2M"

So give it a go. What's the best transfer rumor you can come up with?

Lukas Podolski - Benchwarmer, Social Media Guru, Adorable, Noisy (AHA), Honorary Brasilian and Match Maker. Wait, what now?

As we all know, Poldi has been getting someone to translate translating all of his social media posts to Brasilian Portuguese for quite some time now. Through this he's earned a spot in the hearts of millions, but now - dramatic pause - he's also bringing them together. Let's have a look...

I pretty much died on the way home from work when I saw this. "#PoldiParPerfeito" lmfao. Ladies, go like Poldi's Facebook page and get to commenting!

3. If you would like to be an administrator of the Google calendar, you can PM me your email address (it has to be a Google account) and I can make you one.

4. Match dates/timings (La Liga, UGH) are subject to change. These will be updated automatically in the event of any changes to the schedule. There are also league calendars that can be used to check the correct timings. These will be updated automatically.

In a further twist to its farcical attempt to deal with corruption allegations surrounding the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding race, Fifa has lodged a criminal complaint against certain individuals involved with the Swiss authorities.

Fifa’s president, Sepp Blatter, lodged the complaint at the behest of the German judge Hans-Joachim Eckert, whose summary of Michael Garcia’s 430-page investigation was disowned by the American attorney. The full report will be made available to the Swiss attorney general in Berne, who will decide whether criminal charges should follow.

David Moyes has been appointed as Real Sociedad’s new manager until the end of next season. Photograph: Phil Noble/Reuters

David Moyes has been named as the coach of Real Sociedad on an 18-month deal. Moyes, who was sacked by Manchester United in April following a dismal first season in charge at Old Trafford, has been handed a contract until June 2016 with the Spanish club.

“Real Sociedad has reached an agreement with David Moyes to be the first-team coach until 30 June 2016,” a statement on the club’s website read.

Moyes will be presented to the media on Tuesday and replaces Jagoba Arrasate, who was sacked by the San Sebastian-based club on 2 November after a poor start to the season.

The 51-year-old replaced the retired Sir Alex Ferguson at United on a six-year deal in May last year but left after less than a season. In 51 matches in charge at Old Trafford, the club won 27, drew nine and lost 15 in all competitions.

Moyes made his reputation as a top-flight coach at Everton, who finished in the top six in the Premier League four times under the Scot. They qualified for the Champions League in 2005 and reached the 2009 FA Cup final, where they lost 2-1 to Chelsea after beating Manchester United in the semi-finals.

Sociedad are 15th in La Liga with nine points from 11 matches following Sunday’s 2-1 win at home to the champions Atlético Madrid. Arrasate was dismissed in the wake of a hugely disappointing start to the campaign which saw Sociedad – who finished fourth in 2013 and seventh last term – win one of their opening 10 league fixtures as well as being eliminated from the Europa League.

The former West Brom and Real Betis manager Pepe Mel was also in the running to replace Arrasate but Moyes was reportedly always Sociedad’s first choice and they confirmed his appointment late on Monday night.

Moyes’ first game in charge is set to be the trip to promoted Deportivo La Coruña after the international break. He becomes the fourth British manager of Sociedad, following in the footsteps of Englishman Harry Lowe and the Welsh duo John Toshack and Chris Coleman.

Lowe was manager for five years from 1930, while Toshack has had three different stints at Sociedad, beginning in 1985 and then most recently in 2002.

The Wales manager Coleman was appointed on a three-year contract in July 2007 after Sociedad were relegated to the Segunda Division for the first time in 40 years.

Coleman resigned from his post in January 2008, citing a difference of ideas with new president Inaki Badiola, having led Sociedad up to fifth in the table and one point off the promotion places.

Marco Materazzi, centre, poses with his fans on arrival in Bangalore. The Italian World Cup winner will manage Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League. Photograph: Aijaz Rahi/AP

The Indian Super League will start on Sunday with typical Indian largesse, flinging together the social and celebrity elites and attempting to tap into the passion for the beautiful game in pockets across the nation. The states of West Bengal, Maharashtra, Goa and Kerala have had various versions of semi-professional football for decades, and everything that came with them: passion, partisanship, rowdy fans, the occasional lathi charge. But until this brainchild of the All India Football Federation and the sponsors the Reliance Group, the current I-League format remains a disparate collection of mini-leagues.

And yet still, young boys zipping about on patches of dry grass and industrial estates try to imitate their heroes – Messi, Rooney, Neymar and Ronaldo – plugging away at this second-tier sport in a country enslaved by cricket’s heavenly bails. There is a historic precedent; in the 1950s and 60s India came fourth at the 1956 Olympics and won two Asian Games gold medals. But since then domestic football has stagnated, stuck with several problems such as how to raise its profile and how to translate the enthusiasm for watching football into something practical.

***disclaimer: sorry in advance for all the "soccer" going on in this article***

For most of the last two decades, Italian clubs have dominated European soccer. Serie A had the highest UEFA coefficient from 1991 to 2000. Internazionale and Milan won three Champions League titles in the aughts, more than teams from any other country during that period besides Spain. Kaka, Zidane, and Fabio Cannavaro all won FIFA Player of the Year awards with Italian clubs and every player on Italy's squad for the 2006 World Cup final played in Serie A. Then it all changed.

Let's have a little fun at the expense of Thumbsy (that's Louis van Gaal for you), shall we?

The Guardian hosts The Gallery where readers get a chance to poke a little at various football topics and the star of this week's slideshow is Louis van Gaal.

Here's a preview:

'Louis van Gaal makes it clear it he will not be influenced by any past manager of Manchester United,' honks Gerard Parker.

To see the rest, click here: http://www.theguardian.com/football/gallery/2014/aug/05/the-gallery-louis-van-gaal

And check out The Gallery's page. It's a feast of hilarity. Examples include: Miguel Herrera as Tyrion Lannister, Floppin' Robben as Joffrey, Andrea Pirlo as a ballerina and Hulk as well, The Incredible Hulk (and also Hulk Hogan).

Another example:

'Dr Ochoapuss,' parps John O'Donnell

Oh, and if you love Manchester's greatest musical import, The Smiths (or don't) and Thumbsy, here's something to enjoy:

*To be sung at all matches against Manchester City.

EDIT: The oft-excellent Grantland has a Van Gaalagy 101 where his looks are described as, "like a cross between a weirdly angry pastry chef and a weirdly angry pastry."

I still think he looks like a thumb.

Do we even have a tag for Thumbsy? He certainly needs one.

Well, after a month of World Cup fever, reality hit us hard. The last two weeks have been turbulent and violent and now, thanks to the great nation of Qatar, things have taken a turn for the (even more) depressing.

General awfulness ahead. )

This is just utterly depressing. As a South Asian, it just hurts even more for me. It's pointless asking questions like why FIFA is still allowing this go through. Because nothing has changed.

So, the World Cup ended but the celebrations were not over! Because the day Die Mannschaft returned to Germany with the Cup, there was the big parade for the champions (of the world).

Now, the Germans are brilliant in a lot of things: cars, football, beer, Lufthansa, etc,. But their parades are truly something else. Take one of those Thanksgiving parades they have in America, but amp it by x1000 and you get a German parade. That's how much fun they are. And they certainly did not disappoint in welcoming their team home.

WARNING: Loads of pictures!

Dorkfest ahead. )
